Question:
How long do you have to wait to start over ?????
I was denied a few months back due to no Dr. supervised diets. How long do you think should I wait to start the process again. I was denied in May. January will be 8 months. Is that too soon??? Do they have a limit on how many times you can try for this wls ??? — Laura G. (posted on September 17, 2001)

I would say that depends on the length of time they require you to be on a
medically supervised diet. If that is the only reason for their denying
you, I am wondering why you didn't appeal? You might have been able to get
the denial overturned if you could have proven you in fact were on
medically supervised diets throughout your diet history. If that is what
they require, go to your pcp, have him give you a copy of a diet and
perhaps a scrip for Meridia. Try it, and then re-submit.

On the issue of Meridia; I agree that if you need doctor supervised diet
history, then by all means get to a doctor and get the documentation trail
started.. but, and this is only my opinion, mind you, if the doc prescribes
medications (Xenical, Meridia, whatever) you only have to FILL the
prescriptions, you don't have to actually take them if you don't believe
it's in your best interest. Satisfy the insurance companies rules, but
don't do things to your body that you don't want to. Just my opinion.

Well, since most insurance doesn't cover wight loss drugs, you wouldn't
even really HAVE to fill them necessarily... at $100 a month. How will
your insurance know if you get them if you are paying cash? I guess they
COULD ask for proof in the future.... but I would doubt that!

I've heard of people on this site turn right around and re-submit
documentation required by insurance co. and are approved! just get what
they ask of you. my insurance company only requires 2 attempts w/ meds/
dr. care, no real time limit. Lucky for me my PCP has seen me for 5 years
and has given me several drugs/ diet plans throughout the 5 years. Good
Luck I really think you have a chance!!!
