Folic acid doesn't just "help" during a pregnancy; it's vital as
the best hope to prevent spina bifida, a birth defect of the spinal cord.
Multivitamins, especially prenatal vitamins, are a good source of it; I
relied on my prenatal vitamin for it during my pregnancy, and my child came
out perfect. But check with your doctor (preferably the one during your
follow-up for gastric bypass) as to the recommended dosage for pregnant
post-ops.

Eek! Preferably, the doctor DOING your follow-up for gastric bypass, is
what I meant to say. Oh for an edit button!
