Do you use weights when you work out? If you do then you could be putting on muscle weight. If you are watching what you eat the muscle weight seems to make the most sense. Do you have a support group in the area? Talk to your doctor or support group. Good luck!

This may sound silly, but are you sure your scale is accurate? I bought one a few months ago, and in a few weeks it just started giving me these crazy readings. When I checked on my doctor's scale, I realized that my scale had died a premature death. Wasted my money on that Weight Watchers scale. If you're exercising and you feel good, give yourself and your body some time. Don't panic. Best of luck!

Please do not give up on the band yet...You talk about working out, but what are you eating! I had my band placed 2/09 and it is VERY easy to slip into bad habits. I run 3-4 times a week and gained 8lbs. I was eating things I knew I shouldn't. I also know I need a fill. I have no doubt that the RNY is successful for many people, but my Dr. nurse had an RNY...she said if she had it to do all over again she would have had a band...I don't believe the RNY failed her, I believe the grass is always greener! She sees the success I have had, what she doesn't see is that I am at a gym 3-4 times a week from 8am-11:30. I hate to see you go thru another surgery just to find yourself in the same boat.

1st issue (re scale/weight gain) --> Your scale could be inaccurate for two reasons (1) it could be broken or improperly calibrated; and (2) many scales tend to be inaccurate when you are near the maximum weight range suggested for the scale. You may want to get a new scale with a larger weight range. (I have an electronic scaled made by Taylor that has a weight capacity up to 440 lbs. I have had the scale for over a year, and I've found it to be pretty consistent with what I weight at the doctor's office.) There are also the other reasons people mentioned for a possible weight gain, e.g., starting a new exercise routine. Issue #2 (re which surgery) --> Depending on how much you have to lose and other factors, the band may not be the best thing for you but then again bypass might not be the best. Remember there are a number of different options, like the sleeve or duodenal switch. Please don't make the decision of which surgery to get out of frustration/sadness/anger about your current weight situation, because you may regret it later. My personal experiences is that I have a band, my band malfunctioned (broken port, also possibly leaky band) and so now I have to have surgery again. I am getting the sleeve. I was absolutely sure I did not want a bypass, so talking to my doctor about other options and researching the options I had not previously considered helped me find something that I was comfortable with that would help me reach my goals. Good luck.

If your scale has the cell batteries and the digital read, check the batteries. That or else you can test the scale just by grabbing a weight or something that you know the exact weight of and putting it on it to see if the scale is accurate. If it is accurate I would guess it's muscle weight. Good luck!

I am in the same situation. Banded since Dec 11th of 09 and today had my banded emptied for the 8th or 9th time due to swelling and acide reflux and can not eat anything and this time they think it has slipped. I have my first consult with the bypass doc on May 19th...In MY opinion this band is nothing but a headache and I should of done the revision a year ago. Some people do have success but for me the band has been a nightmare. good luck with what you decide to do.
