Question:
Having trouble with swallowing boiled egg
I am 3 1/2 mo out from lap band and had a fill on Apr. 5th to make 9cc/11cc realize band, Three days after the fill I tried to eat boiled egg and had pain in my throat and in chest when swallowed followed by vomiting, occaisionally that happens w/ other foods but have never thrown up. Any Thoughts on what could cause this? Thank You — T R. (posted on April 9, 2010)

Hard boiled eggs are really very DRY. I am only just NOW able to eat a
hard-boiled egg without too much problem, and I'm 13 months out from lap
RNY. If you want to eat an egg, I suggest you mash it up and moisten it
with a little bit of either fat free or light mayonnaise, or even some
plain yogurt. If that doesn't appeal to you, you could add in a dash of
yellow mustard and a little bit of dill pickle relish. Makes it easier to
go down, and then you shouldn't experience the pain and vomiting.

The only way I can have hard boiled eggs are with mayo, as in an egg salad.
I am 8 months out and I still have a hard time with eggs, especially
scrambled, yuckkkkkkkkkk!

I am only familiar with RNY post op, but it sounds like your food is too
dry and or your bites are too big and not chewed enough. Try taking
smaller, moist, bites and chew it well. You will notice a difference.

I'm with everyone else -- way, way WAY too dry!
As an aside, I'd discourage you from microwaving your scrambled eggs, too
-- that's five hours of my life I'll never get back when I was about three
or four weeks post-op, mostly spent wishing for death.
