Question:
I'm 16 weeks out and only lost 1 pound last week.

Am I eating too much? I only eat 3 ounces per meal. Should I cut back?    — mjdudley83 (posted on April 5, 2010)

You should be eating at least 800-900 calories per day. Try to get your protein up to at least 80-100 and make sure you are getting plenty of fluids. Sometimes if you are not eating enough, you body goes into starvation mode. I know it goes against everything we learned to "diet" but in surgery more calories is better.

Remember we all get stalls in this process. It's such a big change for our bodies... sometimes they just need to regroup for a while. It may not be anything you're doing wrong. from everything I read, though, it's probably good to change some things... maybe increase or change style of exercise, try something new. Maybe up the protein. And Kathy is right, it's very much possible to eat too little after RNY, so that your body's metabolism changes to a "hold onto everything" panic mode. wishing you best luck, keep on keepin' on, and if it lasts for several weeks, call your NUT and get some personalized professional advice.

From Feb 18 to the 1st of April I only lost 6 pounds. It was 6 pounds in about 6 weeks. I hit a stall and was really discouraged - especially since my surgeon really admonished me to make the most of the first 6 months. When it finally broke, and I lost 5 pounds in 5 days. I will say during 4 of that 5 day period I walked over 15 miles. That increase in exercise probably broke the stall.
