Question:
Anyone had to do an appeal with bcbs?
Do appeals always take 30 days? My letter from my doctor was awesome so i am pretty sure I will get approved. Just wondering if it always takes 30 days. — araynard29 (posted on March 10, 2010)

I have BCBS of NC and got approved immediately. I haven't had any issues
with BCBS approving anything, actually. Good luck with your journey!

Amanda I had approval in one day. The information you have is that BCBS
has the right to take up to 30 days to make a decision. If you haven't
heard anything within a couple of days of submission call your insurance
company directly.

I have BSBC of TN and have made 3 appeals. I was denied because I could not
meet the 20% weight reduction required by their qualifications. Plus my
primary care phyician hose up his portion of the required documentation. I
in the end had to pay out of my own pocket.

BC/BS denied me three times based upon the information that was sent to
them by my doctors. All I had to do was call them, they put me on hold and
came back and said they didn't know why I was being denied and approved me
right then. Try calling them yourself. Hope you get approval soon! Let
us know what happens.

My approval with BCBS of Illinois went smoothly after I completed the
6-month supervised medical weight loss and completed all my paperwork and
had my psyc, cardiology and sleep medicine sign offs completed.

I have Blue Shield HMO of California. My medical group denied my request
for surgery even though I met the insurance company's criteria. I had to
file an appeal and Blue Shield responded to me sooner than 30 days to my
surprise. And, even better, they overturned my medical groups denial and
approved my surgery. I just had my surgery last week. Good luck to you.
Hope all goes well for you.
