Question:
Does anyone ever feel full and hungry at the same time?

Oh wow great to see there is someone out there feeling the same thing. I wonder if its because we aren't getting enough protein or perhaps the protein has not broken down the way it should? I would be interested to see what others have done to fix this. Have a blessed week! Tamera

YES... i think our pouches are playing tricks on us. i haven't a clue as to what to do. i think the appropriate solution is to just eat whatever amount we've measured that we're SUPPOSED to eat and not worry about the feeling in our bellies.

I know that I get gas sometimes and that seems to create unusual signals between my pouch & brain. Next time you are feeling this way, chomp a couple or three Tums and see if it doesn't go away. I had this happen just yesterday right after I had eaten my lunch so I knew I wasn't hungry or overfull because I measure my foods. Within a couple of minutes my growling pouch calmed right down.

Funny this appeared. This happened to me for the first time this morning as i had just eaten breakfast and was still hungry but full. I figured the Pouchie was laughing at me and wanted more to come forth.

I get the same thing. I am full, and can feel my stomach growling. It's one of those weird things. Maybe we are eating too fast or something.

I know I have had the same thing and have eaten something light and then felt overfull. What I am now doing when i feel this(mostly at night) is thinking about how much water/fluid intake I have had that day. Very often it is that I have not drank enough fluids and I am actually dehydrated. My body is screaming for more fluids but my stomach can no longer handle the volume. Last night I put a large glass of water by the sink. After I had eaten and later tin the evening when i felt that, instead of reaching for more food, I began drinking from the glass whenever I was in the kitchen. Guess what? It helped alot. I felt better this morning as well. I suffer from dehydration and cannot seem to drink enough fluids daily. I am going to continue this because it seems to be the thing that I have going on. Hope you all find yours. Might want to try and see if this helps?

In my case I realized that before surgery I didn't know what hunger really was. I grew up where even if you said you were full you still had to eat everything on your plate and sometimes more. After surgery, I would feel full but still have that hungry feeling in my stomach. One day I decided that even though I knew I was full I was going to take another couple of bites to take care of the hunger. Bad mistake. As soon as I took the next bite everything came back up. At that point I had to start looking at the fact that what I always thought was hunger may have been what my body was saying was full. Before surgery I would know I was full but there was more food to eat so I would eat it to the point of being stuffed and my stomach would continue to growl. That was confusing because I took that as hunger when really it was just bowel sounds. After surgery when it happened, I thought I would just do the same thing and eat more. Didn't work and I learned an important lesson. I am now working on listening more to my body and not what my head thinks is right. Hope this helps a little bit.

I was so glad to read this post and the responses. I just thought I was crazy - my doctor certainly thought I was when I said something similar to him. I'm not sure what causes this, but I feel so much better knowing I'm not alone! I think this is the reason for my grazing. I do try and always have a bottle of water with me and drink from it whenever I get these feelings (as long as it has been at least 30 minutes since I ate), but I still feel like I need something more solid. Guess I have to learn to ignore it - yeah right! : )

I have had this as well. If I eat something that is bothering me I want to eat to settle my problem. Not good. Over all water ususally will resolve the hunger for me but I feel really hungery like I have not eaten even though I am stuffed.

If you pouch is growling after you have just eaten, it isn't due to hunger. It is from the fact that our pouches don't have a lot of stomach acid in them anymore to help digest the food quickly, so that growling is the digestion process, not hunger. Although is feels and sounds the same. Perhaps if you are still feeling hunger, you are having head hunger.

I haven't actually ever honestly felt full and hungry at the same time however, my new stomach gurgles and growls all the time lol. I have sounds now that I have never heard before. I have to agree that maybe it could be "head" hunger..??..

Thanks everybody for your input! I am so glad to know I am not the only one gurgling and such! I bet it does have something to do with that acid thing and I do need to just control my head and listen to my pouch. Thanks again, and have a blessed day!!!

I agree with another post. Sometimes I get that with gas.. I chew a couple of gas-x and wait about 20 minutes. It may also be that something was not chewed up well enough. Sometimes it is just my mind playing tricks on me... I know that I have eaten but still think I am hungry. I just have to trick my brain. I know that I have eaten enough to fill my pouch so I just get up and do something else.

I have not had my surgery (RNY) yet, but one of the questions I plan to the surgeon is: "If the non-pouch part of the stomach is left in you & it continues to produce digestion fluids, will it growl since it never gets any food?" Can you really tell which part of the stomach is growling - pouch or left-over?

Well, I think I may have answered my own question... I have developed the forbidden habit of drinking while eating, and I think that what is happening to me is simply suffering the consequences. I am full, because I am "full"... yet I am hungry because the liquid pushes everything through so fast it doesn't have time to settle. No wonder I have put back on weight!!! I tried not drinking with dinner tonight for an hour after eating, and I felt very satisfied without overstretching... YAY!!! This revelation comes from me going to my first bariatric support group in two years... so my conclusion? "Don't Drink and Eat!!!" God bless all our efforts... =)

I am just over a year out & I have this most of the time. Full but can't eat another thing - but still hungry! Having said this, I think this may be another way the pouch works as, by the time you CAN eat again, you might find you don't really need it after all (well, that's the theory but it doesn't always work!) But yes, I know the feeling!

I'm so glad to hear this also, I think it's lack of water. I noticed that also and i started to drink and then eat after 15 min. and it seemed to help. I think drinking 60 65 oz. water or vitemn water grate
