Question:
I am not sure if I feel full or if the pain is due to the food being to big?
I am 15 days after surery. The first week was hell! Every time I eat it feels like it wants to come back up and I have a pain. I chew and chew.... Can the peaces still be to big or I am I full ? I am also ALWAYS tired. Does that ever stop???? — katsiliuta (posted on October 20, 2009)

You should be on liquids only still at this point. Liquids being anything
you can see through and your stomach is still very sore and tender and
swollen. Don't try to eat food right now no matter how much you chew. You
need to baby your pouch right now. It just had major surgery and is
connected in a new way as well. YOu are tired from the anesthsia and that
could last for a few more weeks. Try liquids ONLY, tea, broth, not soup
but broth, any sugar free drink, like lemonade, sugar free popsicles, items
like that. You will soon begin to heal and the swelling will take some
time to go down. Please don't try solid foods. It really freaks me out
when I hear people eating or trying to eat food so soon after surgery. YOu
should be on only liquids for about 1 month. You won't be hungry, so that
shouldn't be a problem. Then you go to thick liquids like split pea soup,
thick soups, cream of broccoli, etc. then move on to soft foods, mashed
potatoes, refried beans, cream of wheat, malt o meal, oatmeal (thinned out
on all of these) scrambled eggs, soft fruit. The last phase is 4--which is
solid food. Take it slow, chew chew and chew. Take tiny bites, the size
of a pea at first until you feel comfortable. Be sure to drink your
protein during all of these phases. If you need more help, I would be more
than happy to help you. I had my surgery RNY almost 5 yrs ago and I
haven't had any problems at all. I lost 90 lbs and kept it off. So I have
a lot of experience and knowledge. I had a very good doctor and I followed
his instructions to the tee. That is why I am passing it onto new post op
patients. The best way to heal is to not rush eating "food".
That will happen with time. I know you feel as though you chewed your food
well, but the opening to the stomach (pouch) is only the width of your
little pinkie. So it could be the amount of food and the fact it wasn't
chewed enough. Please email me for more info. It is a lot to take in at
once. YOu shouldn't be hungry, those nerves were cut during surgery, and
it takes about 3 or more months for them to heal. Hope to hear from you
soon.

I agree even with being out just a year, I still have to be mindful of what
I eat. Its a day by day journey. Good luck!
