Question:
Gained 4 lbs in one week??
I am almost 1 year out from having rny and have not had a gain once over the past 11 1/2 months, yet this past week I gained 4 lbs?!?! Seems very odd to me as that is A LOT to gain in one week. I'm very careful to get my water, vitamins and protein in each day, however there were a few days last week (due to a convention) that kept me from getting all requirements...could this have attibuted to this gain? Has anyone else experienced this kind of gain in one week? I'm getting nervous as i'm nearing my 1 year (June 30th). Any encouragement, advice or words of wisdom appreciated. — nsdominick (posted on June 9, 2009)

Being at a convention could be the trouble. It's probably a combination of
little things...Could be partially stress, eating away from home (high
sodium foods) and just retaining water. You really shouldn't worry too
much about 4 lbs...Things will probably normalize in the next few days when
you are home again...But, if you are terribly concerned still, eat light
for a few days and work out a little extra this week. It's always MUCH
easier to work on a few pounds than wait til it accumulates...Small weight
fluctuations are normal though and you should see it drop back down...It's
usually 5 plus pounds that mean it's more than just water
retention...That's when I get serious and work it off...4 is close but I
retain 3-5 extra pounds during my time of month and it's gone shorty
after...So just keep an eye on that and I bet it goes away in a few days
with little intervention!

The previous post had a lot of good points, especially about the convention
food. You don't know how much hidden sugar, fat, and sodium are in the
meals. Because of the surgery, our bodies have become very sensitive to
them.

I agree with Anita's advice. I am 22 months post op and I've read that we
do have to be extra diligent as not to gain our weight back. Although it
isn't advised, I weigh EVERYDAY. If the scale is above 160 I exercise a
bit more and am extra honest about what I'm eating. I remember read an OH
blog, "I've gained 70 pounds. I want to get back on track". I
don't want that to be me, so even if it's a little freaky, I want to be ON
it if I gain just a few pounds. Make sure you're doing what you're
supposed to-eating and drinking the correct things and exercising- and
you'll deal with the 4 pounds. Good luck.

The food at conventions or airplane, etc. are full of salt - you could be
retaining water. Is it that time of the month for you? You could be
retaining water. I have gained a few pounds in several weeks since LAP RNY
- but it is usually water retention from too much salt. I take a water pill
and flush the sytem and it all goes back to normal. I would see your doctor
and see what he/she says. I have seen mine and he gave me water pills to
flush the system now and again. They help. i take one pill every 2 months
or so. Its' nice to know I have them if I need them.
