Question:
I am afraid of failing. What can I do to speed things up?

I had Lap-Band surgery Feb. 4, 2009. So far I've only lost 24lbs. I am so afraid of failing at the journey. I expected the weight to come off a lot faster. I have a pair of Jeans that I would like to fit in by June only about 3 sizes smaller but it looks hopeless. Any advice to speed things up?    — Cookie1257 (posted on May 17, 2009)

from what i understand lap band is a little slower than bypass. but, dont give up,you did not gain all the weight overnight...24lbs is great.. just keep looking forward and in no time those jeans will fit.

I was banded April 1st and have lost 20 lbs and seem to be at a stand still. I am eating 1000-1200 cals a day, but I am going to step up the exercise, as when I look at all I am doing that is the one thing I know I can improve on. Don't know if you are keeping track of your calorie intake and the foods you eat and exercise it's a good starting point. Carolyn James

My doctor told me to be sure to exercise everyday. I ride a bike and he said even five minutes a day is better than nothing. I am up to three to five miles at a time. He said it will boost my metabolism and it did. I was stuck at a seventeen pound weight loss for weeks, I started riding my stationary bike everyday and I had dropped five pounds at my next visit.

Hi, I didn't have the lapband. I had the RNY 3 years ago, and from what I understand and/or what I've been told that if you eat the same foods all the time, it will slow down your metabolizism and you will plateau. So if you change what you are eating it will trick your body and bump up your metabolizism.(sp) I hope this works for you. Best wishes

Have you had a "fill" yet and if so is it benefiting you at all? I was banded on May 1st of this year and am down 17lbs but have been this way for over a week. It has been very depressing for me this past week that i have not lost anymore even though I am not eating near like I used to pre-op. It would only seem logical to lose weight right? I have not had a fill yet and am getting one at my next appt june 9th--- cant wait! I have been under the impression that after a PROPER Fill is when the LAPBAND really should start to work for a person the way it was designed to. Of course with the right food choices and exercise. Exercise is my weakness. I will admit it I am a lazy person! I hate to exercise more than anything but I keep telling myself its not a choice anymore it is A MUST!!! If you are not feeling enough restriction check with your doc about a fill adjustment. Good luck. Dont give up! We chose to have THIS WLS instead of the RNY for one reason or another and we need to stay determined that this surgery we chose will work for us just like the RYN works for some others!!!!
