Call your psychiatrist right now. Check in with your therapist, if you
have one. And let your surgeon know too. Do this right now. Good luck!

CALL YOUR DOCTOR NOW.
If you are taking a timed realease medicine those don't work for us anymore
and the doc will have to change your meds

this is the problem I have been working on for almost 5 years. RNY
patients typically have approx 80% malabsorption- which in laymens terms
means our bodies process and use approx 20% only, only absorbs 20%. That
is one of the reasons for all the vitamins, minerals etc. Picture taking a
pain pill, lets take 1 vicodin, cut it into 5 even pieces and you take one
small piece- that is what your body is absorbing from one entire pill.
There are 3 areas where RNY post ops have trouble,1. pain meds, 2. birth
control and 3. depression meds. You have to get your doctors on board
with teaching them what is right for your body, there is no onesize fits
all anymore. I have interviewed over 1000 post RNY patients, talked with
countless doctors, teaching them how to treat us. Some listen, some don't,
but the majority are open minded. I just advise them to talk with an
oncologist, whose cancer patients have lost their stomach's, and how they
are treated because of malabsorption. Good luck, and hopefully your
doctor will listen. Cindi M.D. Retired -230#

I am still pre-op but on my first visit with the surgeon, his nurse
practitioner explained to me that my Prozac will most likely need to be
increased post-op due to the malabsorption... she also said that other meds
may need to be temporarily increased as well. Call your doc ASAP, do not
let yourself get in a bad spot, the longer you go without adequate psych
meds, the longer it will take for them to get into your system and get you
feeling better. Hang in there :)
