Question:
4 days out and gained 10 lbs. Bloated. When will the water leave?
I've gained inches all over so it has to be water. Followed all the liquid diet instructions. Passed some gas today and feel better but its like I have an inflated basketball in my abdomen. No other complications. Anyone have advice? — Power2Change (posted on January 3, 2009)

The weight you gained is very normal. I was told that it would be a few
days after my discharge from the hospital that the excess water weight
would go away. The weight you gained is from your IV and any swelling that
you have. I am only 4 weeks post op and I wanted to see results right away.
I would suggest not weighing yourself every day. I do it it every 3 to 5
days. It helps me. Good Luck

For me drinking lots of fluids and walking worked to get the gas and
bloating over with. It will take a few days. Try not to get too worked up
over the evil numbers because everything will be a lot better in two weeks

Don't be discouraged. It was almost 2 weeks before the water weight and
gas/bowel functions got back to normal. Make sure you are staying with the
required water and protein. Once the water weight from the IVs moved on
thru the weight started to come off. Remember you insides are still
swollen and that will make a difference. Congratulations!

I gained 25 lbs after surgery while in the hospital. I didn't lose any
weight for the first 3 weeks. I thought I had made a huge mistake. But if
you stick to the plan everything will be fine. Have your protein first
above all, drink your water and, walk as much as you can. In the end, it
will work out.

I agree with the rest of the posts. Don't worry about the scale right now!
Walk, walk, walk! I had Lap RNY on Dec 9th and the more I walked the
better I felt. I still get bloated from time to time and walking always
helps. Good luck!
