Why go all the way to Mexico for this type surgery, especially when you are
going to have follow up appts...can you afford to drive, or fly down for
every appt? There are many ways to get the money needed for the surgery
here in the US...I am alittle leary of out of country medical
procedures....good luck. Farmgirl58

I had my lap-band put on by Dr. Ricardo Rumbaut 3 1/2 years ago, I went
back to this August to have a revision done. Went from band to bypass. Dr.
Miguel Zapata did the revision, both doctors are in Monterrey Mexico. The
facilities are top of the line. Better than any hospital I've ever been in.
The staff are excellant. You receive great care there. The band cost me
$12,000 and the revision cost $15,000. If you are going to have RNY for the
first time it's $12,000. You can google both doctors to get their
credentials. Dr. Rumbauts website is gastricband.com and Dr. Zapata website
is ready4achange.com.

I just had my surgery on 10-10-08. Here is the company I went through
www.MexicoWeightLossSurgery.com My insurance did not cover the Lap Band
surgery either. I have lost 20 lbs so far and I have had no problems what
so ever. The people were so nice and the Marriott was amazing. I will be
going back for some cosmetic procedures next year their prices are less
than anyone else I checked into and the service and hospital were great. I
would highly recommend them. Dr. Mario Almanzo was my doctor. One thing you
should find out before your surgery is who will take you as a patient for
your fills and after care that will be close to your home so that you do
not have to travel long distances. I live in Oregon and found that only 2
doctors will take Mexico banded people. You can also check with a web site
called www.fillcentersusa.com can refer you to a doctor that will be close
to you for your fills. My fills run $175.00 each visit.

I live in Monterrey, Mexico, (39 years) and had VSG surgery with Dr.
Roberto Rumbaut on October 10, 2008. I highly recommend him, and he is
recommended by all my other doctors in the Monterrey area. You can't go
wrong with him.

Hi!
I had my lap band surgery done on 10/11/08 by Dr Kuri in Tijuana. I paid
$7500 total, but I know that if you scedule before mid december they give
you a $500 discount . I was really impressed by the hospital, the whole
team, the equipment, the professionalism I found there. A TV documentary
just came out 2 days ago about having surgery in Mexico, and I think it is
really well done. Go and check that link (I hope it's still active!) :
www.cbs13.com . You'll find 2 videos, on page 8 of their videos library.
Anyway, as one of the poster was saying, you'll have to find a fill center
close to you if you live far from the border. I live in Utah, so it's a
short flight for me to go back there for the fill, and even with the flight
ticket, it's less expensive than if I have it done here, as the price I
paid included the fills under fluoroscopy.
I had to go to Mexico for money reasons, but I found out doing my research,
that many american doctors began to do lap band well after dr Kuri, who has
already performed almost 4000 of them! I would go back to him again if I
had to chose again!
Good luck to you, and let us know...

I went to OCC Obesity Control Center in Tijauana Mexico and had an
excellent experience. I had surgery in Sept. 07 and have lost all the
weight I needed to. I get my fills in the states by a licensed NP in Idaho.
FillcentersUSA has trained fill providers in most states. you can go to
their web site or get a list of fill providers from your surgeon.

I had my surgery in Ensenada, MX with Dr. Alejandro Aguirre in July 2003. I
would recommend him. I know a lot of people are leary of traveling to MX,
but for me it was a great choice. He trained in San Diego and took his
practice into MX. Good luck!

Dr Rumbaut & his assoc. are the greatest. I had lapband with him 4/07
& have lost over 110 lbs so far. Key for lapband, have someone close
that will do follow-up and fills. Even the hospital was wonderful (only
hospital in Mexico approved for presidents if they have illness or injury
while in Mexico)
