Question:
Does anyone know is Tostitos 100% White Corn chips allowed post of for RNY?
I just need a chip with crunch and was not sure if these are a big NO NO. Anyone know of any other types of chips that may be acceptable? thank you — twinsplusone (posted on November 2, 2008)

Soy crisps are probably OK. I like dried peas or dried edamame--salt and
crunch, lots of protein and fiber too. DAVE

The goal to maximize post RNY weight loss is to minimize carbs while
boosting protein. There is only one "chip" that satisfies those
goals-- the sometimes reviled, sometimes needed, but always crunchY, PORK
RIND.

Any kind of chip is a waste of calories and they are not a good source of
protein. It is very easy to go back to old paterns of eating. Don't do it.
Think of wls as a new way of living.Try munching on carrots or other
crunchy vegetable. Remember you are doing this for your health. Good luck.

Kay's Naturals makes a line of protein chips that are pretty good and are
protein based. For us, they are still "junk food" though.
Somebody else said you have to change your way of thinking, and they're
right. You don't NEED chips, you WANT chips. You WANT to lose weight and
be healthy too. Watch what you're thinking, it could lead you back to a
place you don't want to be.

Rather than a chip, maybe you could get a pear and slice it thin, it has
crunch like a chip , but is so tasty and good for you.

If a cocaine addict was looking for "just something to give me that
buzz" you would say, "don't do it!" The same goes for bad
eating habits. It is very important to be in counseling during this change
in our lives. We need to find other ways to satisfy emotional needs
without killing ourselves with the wrong type of foods. There are crunchy
healthy foods if all you want is crunch but if you are looking for more
than that you might need outside support to rethink your way of eating.

I agree with the previous post. Everyone's needs are different. My
nutritionist told us in a group meeting that we could have crackers, or
baked tostitos as long as they are below 3.5 grams of fat. Tostitos makes
a baked chip called scoops. You have to find the BAKED one. I use them
from time to time with no problem, but everyone is different. If these
were a big problem food for you before your surgery then maybe you should
leave them alone. I never had a problem with them, and I use them from
time to time. Everyone is different. Make your own judgement.

Chips after any WLS are unacceptable. WLS is our last ditch effort to save
our lives, we ate things like chips which made us fat and in need of WLS,
why would we still do it after surgery? If you get a taste of them, you'll
just want more. If you avoid them, you'll lose the craving for them.
Try celery or crunchy peanut butter, or a few bites of a crisp apple with
peanut butter on it... this seems to help me.
Again, I say don't do it.
