Question:
When can I start exercising?
I had RNY in June, when can I start to exercise? Also what about amusement parks? — * S. (posted on July 29, 2008)

I had RNY on 5/28 and started working out on treadmill and bike and light 5
pound weights for arms in 2 weeks from surgery. I felt awesome. I started
with walking around the block the first week and went from there. However,
everyone is different. Good Luck.

You can start walking immediately. After a couple of weeks, depending on
how you feel, you can do other things like bicyling, stairs, weight
machines, etc. JUst remember to start slowly and ramp the workout up
depending on how your body is feeling. By now you should easily be able to
do at least 1/2 hour non-strenuous workouts.

I had surgery on 5-10-06, at age 59. I was walking within 2 days of
surgery. Not far--just a couple of houses up the street and back. Worked up
to farther distances over a couple of weeks, when I made it around the
block, 1 1/4 miles. I'd wait for amusement park rides for 5-6 months to
make sure your surgery is fully healed. But do some form of daily exercise,
as it helps your metabolism, which in turn helps you to lose wt. DAVE

Always check with your dr. They will guide you.

Start right now by doing just 5 minutes the first day and adding just a
minute a day if that is all you can do.

My surgeon and his team require that you get in 60 minutes a day starting
the day after surgery. It does not have to be all at once, but a total of
60 minutes, min. everyday...forever.

I had my lap RNY on June 24th and was told I could go back to water
aerobics as soon as my incisions were healed up, which was about 2 weeks.
At 4 weeks out I started back at Curves, but not working hard, especially
the ab machines.

My doctor said if it does not hurt then do it. I was taking water classes
with in three weeks.
