Question:
post op private insurance

Can anyone please tell me if there is any private insurance available for post op gastric bypass patients that requires less then 5 year post op waiting period? I've been looking around for private insurance and every place i've talked to says there is a five year waiting period after gastric bypass surgery. I 'm in Georgia and 3 years out. Earlier this year Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia accepted me. Hope this helps! -Susan Fayetteville, GA

In my state, if you have had continuous insurance coverage (signing up for a new policy before or immediately after your current coverage ends), they cannot deny you coverage for pre-existing health problems. I think that you will find that each state has its own rules and policies and you are likely to find that Blue Cross of Florida covers different stuff than Blue Cross of New York. Your best bet is to try and get insurance coverage through a job as these plans are purchased as a group rather than each individual personal getting their own policy. Best wishes.
