Question:
I have only lost 6 pounds after one month of lap band surgery. Is that normal?

It has one month since I had lap band surgery. I had my first adjustment yesterday. I have only lost 6 pounds so far. Is that normal? Or should I have lost more?    — shaziakhan01 (posted on July 6, 2007)

That is fine they say average 1 to 2 pounds a week so you are in that area.I had mine in March.I always loose 5-8 pounds right away and then nothing until next fiill.I get my 3 fill on Tuesday.Still dont have much resriction, had a little at first now I have none.I hope I get some with this fill. Some people loose each week ,sometimes I gain 2-3 and then loose 4 ,I dont understand it all.I have never threw up or pb but I have ate to fast and it hurts. If you have any more ? let me know.Sandy Hanson

Yes, that's normal. A lot of people don't lose weight in the first month because there is little to no restriction. Once you find the right amount of restriction, you'll be able to lose more weight.

Yes, that's perfectly normal. I think I did actually lose a little more that first month (I don't remember, but not much more). But what I DO know is that I've been averaging about 6 pounds a month. The lap band is much slower, be patient. My 6 pounds per month has added up to 80 pounds and because it's coming off more slowly, I feel very healthy and my brain has had some time to catch up with the weight loss. Any weight loss is better than where we WERE at. Eventually you will find the fill that works the best for you. Congrats on your surgery and I wish you much success!

My surgery was 6/18...I lost 11 pds when I weighed on 6/26....but last week gained 1....and now 7/7 I'm down one.....so it is a slower go than I was expecting. I don't know how you can eat 500-800 calories a day and not lose. I called my doc after the second week and he said don't worry about it - my body is still healing.....My scale is right on with the Dr.s. I go one of those digital scales at Linens and things. it was about $50 = and there was a $10 off coupon...I'm very pleased with it. I ony wish it would give me lower numbers a little faster! tee hee. Carlotta

I lost nothing my first 6 weeks or after my 1st fill. The good thing is I did not continue the trend of gaining. I just had my second fill a week ago Friday. I can tell some difference, but will probably go for a third fill at the end of the month.

Weight loss with the band is a bit slower at the beginning but you once you are properly adjusted the weight will drop off. I had my band placed in January 2003 and achieved total weight loss (113 pounds) in about 15-16 months. I have maintained my weight loss for 4 1/2 years now - something I was never able to do with dieting. Don't worry, you will get there!

I was banded 2-2-07, I lost 27 lbs 2 weeks before my surgery on the liver shrinking diet, but then I didn't lose anything my 6 wks post op. I was SO DEPRESSED. I thought that I had wasted my money. Well I had my first and only fill on 3-15-07, and now to date have lost 105 lbs. Don't get discouraged, sometimes it can take 4-5 fills to find your "sweet spot" I was truly blessed, my dr hit the nail on the head the first time. My best advice for you is water water water. I no longer crave food, I crave Ice water. water flushes the bad toxins out of your body, and also if you are full on water, food doesn't matter any more. Best of luck, just remember, you have to work your band, dont let your band work you.
