Hey Beth - congrats on taking 'the next step' and going for surgery. I'm having lapband surgery on June 18th so I'm going to take note of all the responses you get. Richelle

Beth....in the beginning.....there are no recipes....you aren't really eating anything except for creamed soup, broth, yogart, pudding and popsicles (all sugar free of course). Everyone is different and tolerate different things. I will tell you what got me through - Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup - low sodium, strain off the noodles and drink the broth. Straight broth grossed me out - by the time I had surgery, I couldn't stomach (no pun intended) the straight broth. Carnation Instant breakfast drink and milk - this was my mainstay in the liquid diet ahead of surgery - afterwards, I couldn't tolerate it. Still don't know why on that account. Popsicles and fudgsicles were a godsend, truly. The sugar free jello pudding was good and the dannon, light and fit was doable, they make a smoothie, too. I drank a smoothie (well like 1/2) every morning for breakfast after surgery - I believe it was passion fruit. At about 2 weeks I went to Vons Grocery store, they have their signature soups - I bought the chicken noodle, some rosemary something or another and the chicken tortilla - I put it in the food processor and pureed them - they were good, but got old pretty quick. I then transitioned to Progresso soup - the 100 calorie type at week 3 and started to eat the noodles/meat/veggies - chew/chew/chew/chew/chew/chew/chew - and that worked well. Week 3.5-4 I transitions to soft foods - cottage cheese, yogart and pudding, shrimp cocktail, tuna, watermelon and honeydew. All was tolerated well. But every surgeon is different so I suggest if they give you a plan, stick to it. This was my surgeon's/nut plan. At week 6, I could start introducing anything I wanted or felt like I could stomach. I gradually introduced new things, old favorites with a healthier spin, etc. If you want more info - email me a [email protected] for more ideas further info.

Beth, I am 6 weeks post op. I did suger free pop sickles, suger free applesauce, broth (chicken noodle) for the first 1-2 weeks. Then I went to wendy's chilli, chew chew chew but when down well. 2-3 weeks. Week 4 chicken salad and tuna fish made with light mayo. I tolerated it very well. Week 5-6 I just went back to my regular diet, just with a twist, salads - low fat dressings, salmon with steamed veggies. For breakfast I usually have fresh fruit or weight control oatmeal. Lunch - chicken or tuna/salmon salad, Dinner baked chicken or fish, I even ate a turkey burger with no bread with chedder cheese. Went down well. I guess I am lucky I have not dumped since surgery and I believe me I still go to restaurants and I just order from the healty menu side. I am 6 weeks and I have lost 30 lbs and 2 dress sizes. So good luck on your new adventure. LEE

Beth...I am scheduled June 21st and have a 2 week pre-op diet starting on the 7th. (2) 8oz protein drinks and 1 meal consisting of 4oz lean meat and 1/2 cup vegies (excluding peas and corn). After my surgery, I can't have dairy products or vegies or fruit until like the 2nd or 3rd month. (I'd have to look it up again). So lean meat with tons of protein and lots of brooth and sugar free popsicles and jello here I come lol. Good Luck, I'll be praying for you!

Also, we bought EAS 100% Whey Protein (6lb bag/ purple and black) in Chocolate flavor at Sam's Club ($24.88)...it's awesome! Tastes like White Chocolate mouse frozen yougart from TCBY. Add a little Sugar Free carmel syrup and ice cubes and 1oz of 1/2 and 1/2 and blend it YUM! Even ad a dab of lite cool whip. Hope that helps!
