I assume you mean for surgery? Most surgeons give Roxicet liquid percocet
for pain early on. If you have trouble for whatever reason with narcotics
there are other things that can be given. Moriphine pump is common for the
first 24 hours immediately after surgery. There are lots of choices, if you
have gotten ill on something in the past let them know BEFORE surgery so
they can address it. Many lucky folks like myself had little pain but its
very individual.

Taking narcotics is between the patient and the doc. There are many of us
that can't take the NSAIDs or other analgesics, thus requiring a unique
approach to pain control. It must be noted also, that with the RNY, there
is less uptake of medication, and therefore what might seem like a lot, is
really not much.

Like Dana said, it depends on your dr. I was told before surgery that they
didn't want me to take nsaids, and I was having terrible pains in my knee
that needed replaced. Therefore, narcotics, under dr supervision was
preferrable for my pain relief. I will say, if any one has problems with
drug addiction, that no one who knows of it will prescribe it.
