Question:
my dr just prescribed cymbalta for me
due to depression, family problems, anxiety, etc. I am 4 yrs post op. Has anyone else taken cymbalta post op? Any problems? Thanks. — jojo63 (posted on November 4, 2006)

I take Cymbalta. My only problem was sleepiness and nausea. Take it right
before bed with (yes, I know) carbs. I usually would have a couple crackers
with cheese with it. Otherwise I would wake up with dry heaves. I have done
much better with this one than I did with Wellbutrin. You can email me if
you want to ask more

About 3 months ago my Dr switched me to Cymbalta from Wellbutrin. I do have
some occasional sleeping problems but I have not had any nausea like Jamie
has. It seems to be working OK. I am 3 1/2 years post op

Hello....
I am post-op (RNY 02/06/06). Pre-op I had been on multiple
anti-depressants since 1995. The last one was Cymbalta and it absolutely
worked great for me. Of course, I had to stop all meds just prior to
surgery. After surgery, it looked like I might need to go back on meds. I
contacted my surgeon's office and was told that I could no longer use
Cymbalta because it was an extended release drug and I could no longer
absorb it.
After a lifetime of depression, I found this to be disturbing....however, I
didn't go back onto any anti-depressants and I have actually been off meds
since 02/06. We all have serious hormonal changes post-op and so far I
have been able to manage my depression post-op without meds. The hormonal
changes post-op are a killer...but I am getting through them (with
continued counselling) and hope to remain medication free.
I hope this answers your question and helps. Good luck!

Hi there! I will be 5 years post-op on January 2nd. I was put on Cymbalta
in early October, and have had great results. Perhaps it's due to being
farther out from surgery that has made me able to use it even though it's
an extended release med. I have a stressful job (in-school suspension
classroom, 4th - 6th graders) and was also nervously eating all day at my
desk. I had nausea on the first dose, but none after that. My sleeping
has actually improved as well, so I feel fortunate to have found a great
med for me. I've lost 19 pounds since I started taking it, but I have also
gone back to my early post-op diet to get a good clean start. I think it's
a good antidepressant, and hope you have great results with it, too.

I WAS ON CYMBALTA BEFORE AND HAVE CONTINUED TAKING AFTER RNY ON OCT 19TH
THE ONLY PROBLEMS I'VE HAD IS THAT AT FIRST I HAD TO TAKE AT NIGHT BECAUSE
IT MADE ME SO SLEEPY BUT AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS IT CAUSES ME TO NOT SLEEP
WELL SO I CHANGED TO TAKING IN AM
