I am 51, 5'4" tall with a large bone frame. I would like to find a chart that takes all of that in consideration. I want to see if my goal is realistic for me. Thanks — curiousjane (posted on October 7, 2003)

Hi carolyn, go here http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm. It is a
weight calculator that uses gender, age, frame size and height to determine
your ideal weight. IE I am 26 and have a large frame, most charts say I
need to be 125-135 but this one indicates "MY" ideal would be 167
and my goal is 170 so we are on the same page. Good luck.

I went by percent body fat. I know that carrying around all that extra
weight built muscle, not to mention my last weight loss effort that
included strength training. My "ideal" weight for my height is
like 105 to 115 (I'm 5'2") BUT I carry about 105 pounds of lean body
mass, so that would be an unhealthy weight for me! I weigh 130 and wear a
size 6 with a percent body fat of 23%. The normal range for my age is
22-27% body fat, so I know I am in the healthy range. If you are interested
in calculating it this way, try:
http://www.zoneperfect.com/site/content/calculator.asp for percent body fat
calculations. I think the normal percent body fat ranges for age groups are
on about.com but I can't seem to get to them. The site keeps locking up on
me.
