Question:

A colonoscopy can be done. The large intestine is not effected by the RNY.
An endoscopy of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum cannot be done as
before. A large part of the stomach is separated from the pouch so that
part of the stomach and the duodenum can't be viewed, only the pouch and
esophagus. I understand that some times a pediatric endoscope is used to
try to view more of the stomach. I don't know how well that works.

Just had one 2 wks ago. I'm "that age". Since my bariatric
surgeon did it, the pre was even customized for my small pouch. Cool.

Colonoscopys are to detect polyps, abnormal growths pre cancerous,
divrertelcosis, cancer, and such. This test isnt related to WLS but age.
After 50 everyone is supposed to get this test every few years, for safety.

Colonoscopy can be done after this surgery without any problem, as all the
weight loss surgeries have nothing to do with the colon. Upper endoscopy
can be problematic with Roux en Y surgery because there is no easy way to
get to the duodenum to evaluate it for ulcers. That is why patients who
have the Roux en Y have to take life long acid blockers, such as Zantac,
Pepcid, Prilosec, or some such medication.
