Are bowel blockages and bowel kinks a common problem?

My best friend had one several months post-op. The stupid dr. tried to say it was her fault!!! He said she was either eating too much or too fast. We're not stupid! That just wasn't true. I agree about them being more common with laps. My surgeon told me that anyone who has had multiple abdominal surgeries should have an open to avoid obstructions and adhesions. (my friend had had four!)
