Question:
Is the way I feel normal for pre-op?
I have been on shake fast preparing pre-op. I am experiencing some days where I have extreme aching in my shoulders and middle back. I am also really light headed. I am more comfortable sitting than standing. Is this normal? It is hard to function at work this way. I am wondering if it is my meds or not hydrating or not enough protein. I need to push close to 100 gms of proteing daily, I think I am good on fluids. I appreciate any answers or questions for my Dr. We are meeting for the last time before surgery in 3 days. — MichRich (posted on February 5, 2011)

I had swelling in my feet ad emailed my nurse pre-op. she did not reply.
found out after surgery (gained 30 lbs) tthat I had 2 leaky heart valves.
Call our doc right away. you may have an undiagnosed condition that won't
postpone your surgery but will make it easier on you!

The only real issues I had while on the pre-op diet were feelings of hunger
and fatigue. When I spoke to my surgeon he said this was normal, but any
other symptoms may represent pre-existing conditions and should be
evaluated asap. I suggest you call your surgeon's office and explain your
symptoms today, don't wait. They may have some tests that should be run
before you meet with them in 3 days. Good luck on your journey. I had RNY
surgery on 9/27 last year and I have lost almost 60 pounds and feel like a
new woman.
