Question:
I am recovering from a perforated ulcer.
I am recovering from a perforated ulcer and pertonitis. The surgeon said in two months we would reevaluate to see if a revision is necessary. Why would a revision be necessary and has anyone else had this experience? — GingerKS (posted on August 24, 2010)

I had a perforated ulcer at 2 yrs post op (RNY). The surgeon said the
ulcer was at a surgical margin which I took to mean where the stomach was
stiched together with the small intestine. Luckily, I didn't have too much
infection, but it was the worst pain I ever had. I was in the hospital 7
days with IV antibiotics. Then I had to take ulcer meds for several months
and take acid reducers for life. I also had to avoid certain foods-acidic
like citrus, vinegar, tomatoes, spices too. I think that the surgeon will
have to look at the margins and the amount of scar formation to make a
decision about revision. Let your stomach heal.
