Question:
Post-op 7 days and liquids don't feel like it's enough, ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Tisha: Have you tried protein shakes yet? How about yogurt, S/F, lo-fat puddings or hard-boiled/scrambled eggs? I am only now 6-mos. post-op laproscopic rny and I too had a 'textbook' experience with virtually no problems. Yes, I have vomited a few times, but mainly because I was anxious to return to 'normal' foods (much like you, I guess) and forced what I know was a poor choice, and well then I had to get rid of it or the discomfort wasn't worth it, so I can honestly say now it was "worth it". Anyway, thinking back, these were the first few solid choices I tried and I recall before my first 2-week post-op checkup I had ate scrambled eggs, yogurts and I drank a lot of protein shakes (similar to your postop diet, assuming your surgeon had you do one like mine did). Anyway, if you try something that does not agree with you, you will quickly know it. My surgeon/NUT encouraged me very early to try new foods and not to limit myself. They believed I would know (and trust me you will) when you try something too soon. Also if you're tired of the preop protein shakes, try some websites for new ideas on smoothies or visit your local fitness center/gym that has a juice bar or cafe. They make some scrumptious protein smoothies that are out of this world. I belong to LA Fitness and although their large shakes are 32-ozs. ($5) and it use to take me 4-6 hours to consume the whole thing the satiety they provide (not to mention the diversity of flavors) are out of this world!! I will still stop 1-3x per week for a smoothie treat, so this is just a thought to motivate you toward the "good-for-you" liquids we need for calorie consumption. Best of luck and Godspeed.

Ooops, I was also allowed protein shakes a s well. Get 64 oz of water and 50 oz of protein daily, it is hard but you can do it!

Many surgeons vary on the amt. of time to be on liquids post-op, mine was liberal. From the get go we could have scambled eggs, jello, yogurt, oatmeal, cream of wheat, refried beans or anything pureed. But that may be more than your doctor wants you to have at this point. Good luck with your decision. Hugs, Jane.
