I did a search of his name, and found this link:

I'm not sure if this is good/bad news for you or not, but I would think you
should be able to contact this organization, and perhaps they can confirm
the findings as true? I found quite a few threads with his and his wifes
name included, just searching the internet. Looks like he was quite
infamous in the bariatric field! Good luck in your search!

Dr. Harberg performed a VBG on me on 9/30/97. As everyone has said, he had
a very gruff and had a dry sense of humor but I got a kick out of him! I
had already been warned about his personality by a friend who used him and
I was determined that I was NOT going to be intimidated! Thanks to various
WLS sites I was already on prior to my consultation, I went in with a list
of questions for him. A lot of them he answered in his presentation to me
about the surgery and life afterwards but I did have a few on there he
didn't cover. It was funny. He was so tickled that I brought a list of
intelligent questions in with me that he asked if he could make a copy to
keep. Of course I said yes LOL! After surgery I lost weight at a fast
pace that first year and everytime I got on the scale and it dropped he was
just as happy as I was. Those that say he was dedicated in what he did
were 100% correct. I ran into a problem though. I started feeling hungry
again shortly after eating and started regaining weight. I called his
office to ask about it and rather than going in to check things out I got a
response that implied that whatever was wrong it must be my fault, that I
must be doing something wrong because the surgery was fine. Well, it
wasn't fine but I spent the next year kicking myself as 25lbs creeped back
up on. Finally I went to Neweigh for a consult to find out if I had indeed
outeaten the surgery as was implied or what was wrong. Turns out my
silastic ring had come loose from the pouch and was gone. Therefore my
surgery had been rendered ineffective and it was NOT my fault, I had NOT
failed the surgery! Talk about relieved. I was stripped of the shame and
guilt I had been carrying for the past year and was revised to an RNY by
Dr. Carlos Ferrari on 5/22/00. Despite how our "relationship"
ended I still feel Dr. Harberg cared deeply about his patients and wanted
them to succeed. If what the link in the post above me means that he has
passed away I am sorry to hear it. He was gruff and crusty but funny all
at the same time. Once you met him, love or hate, you never forgot him!
