Question:
Really Confused?

I had my 1st follow-up appt with the doc today and he said I was healing well after having surgery 9 days ago and everything seems to be looking good. I had to have paperwork filled out for my job and asked for all operative reports and anything else needed for my time off with my job. My confusion comes in here, I signed my paperwork with the doctor a week before surgery and asked specifically for the Lap Band as I read over all my paperwork and spoken to him he said he implanted the Realize Band C and all went well. I was in a confused state trying to figure out if I had asked for the Realize Band or Lap Band but specifically remember asking for the Lap Band. What should I do, how should I feel? I'm pretty sure they're the same thing, and that Realize is just a brand or type of lap band. Do some research online, and don't be afraid to ask your doctor! Best success.

I had a lap band and my brother in law had a Realize Band . We are both successful with our weight loss. They are basically the same. They both do the job they where invented to do. So I wouldn't worry about that part. However, I can understand how you feel if you did not get what you thought you were getting. I would mention it to the doctor or even his/her nurse. It may be that the Realize Band is the one your doctor is more comfortable using however he should have told you. I would have preferred if my doctor did not leave it up to me to decide because marketing makes them both sound good. Anyway, give the nurse a call and just ask her so you feel better. But I wouldn't worry about it. The "Band" is as good as we make it. Good Luck on your journey. Welcome to the club.

My understanding of the two bands is they are merely just different labels. Like Delmonte green beans and Libby green beans...same beans different label. Realize has it's own website just like lap band has their own. I would go onto their site, register your band and ask questions there. Both web sites have their own support team and blogs. I was originally banded with the lap band and then had to have a replacement last August and they used the Realize C at that time. It is wider and the port is secured differently. Both do the same job but Realize also has a great support system online as well. After having both brands, I think you will be glad that you have the Realize instead. I am sure that it makes you wonder why he changed but am sure he did what he thought was the best tool for you. best of luck!

Dear Charise . i am Bootsie angel I have the Realize Band it is approved by the FDA .I have had Mine for almost a year I like mine I don't even know I have it only when I eat to much or to fast I was 68 years Old when I got mine and I have lost 27 lbs with it but lost 52 lbs on My owen .My real Name is Ruth Rowe. You got the best of the two! The Realize band is the new, improved version of a gastric band. The main differences are 1. The Realize band can be filled with saline all the way around...the Lap-Band has a gap. 2. The Realize band is made of a strengthened material that is less apt to develop leaks. Think of it as the improvement from a manual transmission in a car to an automatic...your doc took good care of you, and you will do fantastic!
