Question:
Are there any Bariatric restaurants or food service places in your area?

I was wondering if anyone knows of any Bariatric restaurants or food service places near them. Especially in NJ. Would anyone be interested in going to a place like that or have food delivered? Thanks. Dorothy PS. I am 9 days post op.    — dddumplings (posted on November 29, 2009)

This is an interesting concept....I don't know of any such thing around here (Denver)... but I often go out to restaurants and just order sides or have them put 3/4 of the meal into a to-go box before they even bring it out. I'm not sure if a Bariatric Restaurant could bring in enough money to sustain itself.

I have great friends who tell me the diet friendly plates available at the different restaurants around. Many restaurants have symbols next to the diet friendly options on their menus, plus you can always ask that sauces, dressings and such be left off. (Take your own s/f salad dressing or just ask for oil/vinegar). I usually get three meals out of a restaurant plate, but I get to be "normal" and go out with family and friends. Most meat/veggie meals freeze well. I feed the birds with the left over bread, and my husband gets the other carbs mixed into his lunches (but if you don't have a roomie who eats carbs, it's okay to throw it away!)

Nothat I know of, but my clinic offers a restraunt card that explains that I can only eat a little bit and could they charge me for 1/2 meal or a childs plate. At buffets I get charged for a kids price as I eat only 4 ounces per meal. But usually when I go out I get soup broth and then eat at home. However, I do sometimes order the grilled shrimp side or some other small side. Or even add a side to someones plate.

Sorry but you are only 9 days out and are already worrying about resturants??? I think that eating resturant foods(Fast foods are what got us in this place in the first place. I am not saying that resturant eating is taboo but come on think a second... Cheaper to cook at home and since you are only 9 days out should you not be following a diet plan with a NUT??? All I can say is think first before resturants are you choice. You really can't trust that they won't put hidden oils and sugars. You might want to join a support group in your area that could exchange recipies perhaps.Or better yet organize a group and have a cook day pot luck. That way you know for sure it is safe to eat.Hope that you can stay on track and stay focused

It was a question because everyone goes thru the same thing. We go out to eat for socialization. If I could find a place that is bariatric friendly I could get my friends to go there instead of a place that is not good for me (because they support me). I am only thinking ahead. Also I am researching the possiblity on opening a bariatric type food service place. I have been the model patient and plan on staying that way. So keep you conclusions to yourself thank you.
