While everyone is different, I can honestly say that I had no pain
afterward. I had the VSG performed laparoscopically by Dr. Cirangle. I was
prescribed plenty of medications in the event I needed them, but I never
used them. I didn't even use the morphine IV in the hospital. Slight
discomfort at first, but I got out of bed, started moving and kept moving
and I was fine. I stayed in San Francisco for a week because I had to fly
there from Hawaii, but I could go out and walk around (which was
encouraged) immediately. Take your time, don't over-do, be sensible about
things... no heavy lifting, etc.. Ask your surgeon. I am sure they have
guidelines for you to follow. Best to you always! :)

Everyone has a different tolerance for pain. My worst day was the day AFTER
surgery.....after that the pain was minimal and I used very few of the
Vicodin they gave me. Extra strength Tylenol was used.
The day I came home from the hospital I felt like a brand new baby and
everyday since then has been incredible. I began driving 3 days post of
(home) and it was to the grocery and then to Walmart of sweatpants.....
Let me warn you also. For some reason you may have some post op
difficulties either falling asleep and/or waking up earlier and not being
able to fall back to sleep...this passes.
Good luck

I had laproscopic RNY on Monday, came home on Wednesday, went to the movies
on Friday, church on Sunday and back to work on Monday driving myself. I
think I did some housework the second week after surgery--vacuuming,
dusting, cleaning bathrooms. Nothing that required me to do any amount of
lifting though.
I had very little pain after surgery was up and out of the bed within three
hours of coming out of recovery room.

i had a DS and my problem was not pain but exhaustion. I had Mobic and
tylonal 3 for arthritis and that was enough. I had a problem with my wound
seeping and having to be reopened. It was a good five months before I felt
well enough to be active. Having an open wound was a big part of that.

Depends on your pain tolerance, I think. My pain tolerance is very high.
I did great after surgery on Monday afternoon. Left the hospital Wednesday
morning, and stopped by the store on the way home to do some shopping. I
was out shopping almost every day after that, because I developed an
infection in the incision around the JP drain site, and had to keep going
out to get more (and different kinds of) dressings and bandages because my
skin was getting raw and sore from all the adhesive. Other than that, my
only pain was like muscle soreness, like you would have from doing too much
exercise at the gym. It would take a couple of minutes to maneuver out of
bed in the morning, and I'd have to take a little extra care getting up
from a sitting position, especially if I was sitting on something low, like
the sofa. If you have a recliner, that's probably where you'll stay when
you're not up walking around, because it's easier to get in and out of. I
returned to work 11 days post-op, and felt fine. I had tremendous energy,
and never felt drained or tired at all. In fact, before surgery, I'd come
home each day and immediately lay down on the couch for a nap. I think
I've taken maybe half a dozen naps in the past 8 months now. I've just got
too much energy to lay down!

God bless the people that didn't have pain because I had alot. I had lap
rny and was in pain for 3 weeks. I had no energy until week 4. I returned
to work on week six and by then I was feeling more like myself. Everyone is
different and I wasn't so lucky to bounce back as quick as the others.

Hop over to the Ds board, you will get alot of answers from everyone, who
actually had Ds. Rny and Ds are totally 2 differant surgeries. Ds some
are open and some are lap.I would answer that question, but I,m waiting on
my surgery date.

I had pain for 4 weeks. Not severe, but it was there all the time. The
biggest help to my pain was a hot water bottle on the site. Sooo soothing!
My tolerance to pain seems to be poor. I've had alot worse, though, when
I had total knee surgery. It's definitely worth it!!!!!
