An ulcer hurts like hell, A stricture doesn't you just throw up because the
food will not pass thru. Hope this helps. See your doc! Lesleigh07

A stricture is scar tissue that has formed around your stoma (the opening
from your pouch into your intestines) and prevents your food from going
down. I had one beginning at about 4 weeks out. I would eat my 2 ounces
of solid food, and not really notice anything until an hour later when I
began to drink again - and then I would realize that the water or fluid was
not going down because my food was "stuck". I would begin to
salivate more, and swallowing my saliva caused the "stuck"
feeling to be worse. Finally, I would throw up. It wasn't painful to
throw up, just a relief. I tried to ignore it and hoped that if I just
REALLY chewed my food well, all the problems would vanish. They didn't. I
stopped losing weight because my body went into "starvation
mode", and finally I spoke to my surgeon's PA about it. She said it
sounded to her like a stricture, and had me see the Gastroenterologist that
I saw before the surgery, and we arranged to have the dilation procedure.
Even though it is only a 5 minute procedure done on an outpatient basis
under conscious sedation, I demanded that I be "completely out"
because I suffer panic attacks if someone tries to put something down my
throat, and I have a tremendous gag reflex and knew that I would fight
them. They agreed without any problem. I was in and out of the surgery
center in about an hour, including all the paperwork. If you have a
stricture, it's an easy thing to fix. Talk to your surgeon about it as
soon as you can. Good luck!
