Question:
For those who used Baby Food- what kinds were good?
I see a lot of them are high in sugar and low in protein. Would appreciate some advice. My RNY scheduled for 4/27 but am trying different protein supplements, etc. to get ready. TY — eem211 (posted on March 24, 2009)

HI there, i heard that baby food was too high in fat therefore we should
not use that but instead make our own puree when the time comes. I am
barely two weeks out and have lost 29 lbs already. I wont say that i feel
the greatest but im sure it will get better. Good luck on your upcoming
surgery and all the best for an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery.

I have to agree that baby food is too high in sugar. I used my blender and
blended up whatever I wanted to eat. It looked terrible but was actually
pretty good. You don't want to start out with sugar in your diet. I
pureed tuna with a little lite mayo, and onions. It was wonderful and no
hunks in it. Susan

I used Heinz baby food for my pureed foods.
You do need to read the labels for sugar. There are quite a few kinds in
the single digits for sugar if I remember correctly but some were high in
protein that I needed.

I am all most 1 year out and almost down 100lbs...And i can remember being
told not to eat baby food...as it may be good for babys...but it does not
have enough of the nutrients ...(protein) in it...so you would be better
off with regular food....Tuna..cottage cheese...soups...yogurt...protein
shakes..BLENDED !!!! it takes some getting used too...But it does get
better...I PROMISE !!!!!

I used the Gerber meats. They were very low in sugar and had some protein.
If you add spices to it, you can make it taste pretty good. I still keep
a couple of jars at work in case they don't have something good at work to
eat in the cafeteria.

I ate baby meat sticks..1 jar is 2.5 ounces counting the water you pour
off...and 110 calories and 10 g protein and 1 gram sugar. My nut said it
was fine...when I was on stage 2. Of course I was eating only half the jar
at a time. But I still keep them around for something different to eat. I
eat 4 oz at a time now..9 months out and reached goal weight last week.
(lost 110 lbs) Best of luck to you! hugs, Kim

I have 1 thing to say.DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! I bought all kinds of baby
food and they all were totally disgusting. Buy your self a little food
processor and process the heck out of your proteins to baby food
consistency. Good Luck

Look at the nutrition facts labels on the baby food jars. Avoid the
"desserts" and stick to the veggies, fruit and meats (stage I and
II). There is not any added fat or sugar. The baby food just makes your
life easier because you do not have to puree the foods yourself. If you are
really concerned about any "added ingredients", try the organic
baby foods. Baby foods may not taste appealing because you are used to
added salt and flavorings. You could always add Mrs. Dash to enhance the
taste.
