Jessica... Anita gave you a URL to a website in her answer to your similar
question yesterday.... have you looked at it? When I was on a low carb
diet and lost 26 pounds before surgery, I was mostly eating small servings
of fish, chicken, turkey, and cheese, every 2 hours (for 6 small meals per
day) Of course, you could always go on a liquid, high protien diet like
some here have, for a couple of weeks.

Yup...I had to do the 2-week liquid diet before my surgery. SF popsicles,
SF / FF pudding, lots of Crystal Light, Yogurt, Protein Shakes, Campbells
Tomato Soup, Chicken Noodle Soup (without the chicken noodle) {lol}...
was not a good time but it worked...lost 16 lbs. before surgery. You can
do it !! The results are all worth while !! The best of luck to you...

I'm planning on using the Medifast or Optifast program to achieve my
pre-surgery weight loss. Basically, you really limit your carb intake,
increase protein and water. However, the meat and cheese small meal plan
sounds just as effective as these programs and a lot less expensive. Good
luck!

Hi, I ended up losing 17lbs (337 lbs to 320 lbs) in the 4 day pre-op clear
liquid diet. I was so afraid I wouldn't be able to handle those 4 days
after decades of constant overeating, but it really wasn't that bad at
all...and it sure worked to shed some lbs quickly! Good luck! You will
succeed!

My question is, what is the hurry? I had a lap band done on 3/4 and took 15
months to get my body ready for this. I lost 50lbs before surgery. I don't
think my bariatric office would have allowed me do anything else but a
normal well balanced, realistic diet. If you don't learn how to eat before,
what are you going to do after when getting the right amount of nutrition
is essential? With a the band, it is used as a tool, not the solution.

I would recommend you look at the carb charts for all foods and know the
exact amount of every bite you take before you put it in your mouth. When
I did the pre-op low carb diet, I ate lean proteins and green veggies for
the most part. I drank water, low carb Fuse, Diet V8 Splash, Powerade
Zero. Read every label and you will begin to get the hang of it. Go to a
book store and buy a pocket handbook on nutrition information for all foods
such as South Beach or something like that to keep with you to refer to
frequently. I can't give you the exact menus, just suggestions. I also
bought a few new cookbooks such as Before and After by Susan Maria Leach,
Low Carb and Loving It by George Stella and get to know the ingredients.
If you are having RNY, you will want to focus on sugar free/low carb. Best
of luck,
