I choose my weight based on what Tyra Banks weights when she was modeling
for vic secrets. Totally unrealistic, but fun and something to shoot for.

I chose my goal by the "Ideal Body Weight." This was posted in
my surgeons office and it's also on the internet. Just look up BMI or Body
Mass Index and it will give you that goal and ideal body weight goal
(range). I've hit my goal -- you will too.

I set my goal to be the highest number in the "normal" range on
the BMI chart. For me at 5'4" that was 140 lbs. I hit that then set a
new goal of getting to the weight I always thought was perfect which was
130. I hit that then kept going (not trying to but my body wasn't ready to
stop). I ended at a low of 117, but didn't like it that low and have worked
to get it to 124 to 126 range (depending on the day). To me
"normal" meant no longer over weight, which meant healthy. Of
course, any weight loss will make you healthier, but this was just my goal.

I was asked at my psych eval what I would like to weigh and I was reluctant
to set a specific number. I'm a Mental Health Counselor, and I've worked
with people with various eating disorders for years and have seen what
happens to people when they get "married" to a number on the
scale. So, when push came to shove and I had to come up with a number I
did what someone else posted and used the highest number that would give me
a "normal" rating on Body Mass Index. You can find a BMI
calculator online and just put in your height keep lowering the weight
until it says "normal" for BMI. But, I strongly encourage you to
pay attention to how your body looks and feels as you lose weight and use
that as the best indicator, along with advice from your doctor and
nutritionist. I have revised my goal from 145 pounds, which I reached a
few months ago to 130, but we'll see. If I don't get there, I'm not
worried about it as long as I'm healthy. Good Luck to you in your journey.

Interesting.... my Surgeon set MY goal. He said based on my age, height,
and body structure, he'd like to see me between 165 and 170. That's what I
weighed when I got married, and I looked damn good back then! Of course, I
was tall, too -- 5'9". Now, I'm only 5'7", but he still says
that's what he wants me to weigh. I may try to lose more than that, but if
I get down that far, I'll be ecstatic!!

When I decided what it should be I based it off the BMI charts for my
height, age and bone size. I wanted a health goal to reach for not just to
be "skinny" but to be healthy.

Hi... I saw this question on a recent blog and one of the responders said
she didn't think setting an actual "goal weight" was important to
her. The best goal for her was to set the size of clothes that felt good.
For me - this made so much more sense so you don't have to play the game of
"only 5 or 10lbs" to go routine when you are close. Plus you
might find that your "goal weight" might be too low or high once
you reach it.
Hope that helps...

I picked a goal weight of 135 (5'7")which is what I weighed in my
20's. My doctor thought this was unrealistic (I'm 62 years old) and he
upped it to 155 - a65 lbs. You should also remember that unless you have
plastic surgery you'll probably be carrying 15 pounds of skin. I really
like the answers that tell you to just feel good!
