Stay off the scale the first week. You are bloated from the surgery most likely. Next week it will look much better. I weighed more right after surgery then before. It was too scary. The next week everything was just dropping. Stick to the liquids for now and you should be fine.

I had RNY surgery. I weighed myself today and have gained about 5lbs. I do feel very bloated my pants aren't fitting.

My RNY was 2-5-09 and I have been fleeling very bloated too. We have to remember that we just had major surgery and it will take time for your body to heal and let the swelling subside. My first week was hard, but now it's getting easier. I really feel bloated while eating or drinking, but I am making myself more aware of when I start to feel full, that I stop. I still can't eat/drink everything but I try to do better the next day. TIME is what we need to heal. Hang in there.....we are going to be fine. FYI, I decided not to weight myself until I see my Doc next week. Hope this helps and email me anytime!!!

Remember that you had IVs and medications after your surgery. That uptic in weight is a result of your surgery and immediate post surgery time. I know you want to see immediate results, but stay away from the scales for a couple of weeks. Denise

I came home from the hospital eleven pounds higher than when I went in. It took two weeks to get rid of all the fluid. Not fun! But once that came off, I started to see real results. Good Luck to you!

I was in the hospital for 5 days and when I came home my weight was 20lbs more than the day of the surgery. The doctor said it was fluid retention and that it would go away fast. It took me about 3 weeks post-op to get rid of it and then the pounds started to come off. Do not despair. Follow your doctor's advice and you will be just fine. Good luck.

Every case is different but as a long-time surgical and ICU nurse, let me assure you that bascially EVERYONE gains fluid weight during surgical procedures. I bet you a protein shake you'll pee it all off in a couple more days - - don't despair!

Hi, I have read this is pretty common, it happend to me. The day I went home from the hospital I weighed more than I weighed before I dieted and lost my weight before surgery. I have a bad fluid retention problem and had to continue my fluid meds at half the dose I was taking before surgery. Don't weigh yourself at home either.
