staying hungry
I have a problem with hunger. I find myself wanting to eat too much after I get home from work. help — nana120152 (posted on February 2, 2009)

Hunger? or wanting to eat? I never feel hunger, but out of habit I want to
eat. In some of our group phsy meetings they told us it was called
"head hunger". Get alot of sugar free jello, puddings and stuff
like that and have on head. When you feel this urge to eat, then eat the
sugar free stuff. Not sure how far our you are from sugery, but I am only
5 weeks and if I eat sugar free stuff all day long, I would still never get
the calories in that they tell us to eat. We were told to eat 900 calories
a day. 900 gezzzz, I look at that number and say no way can I eat 900
calories. I probably do good to eat 4-500 a day. I am trying to get more
in, due to my bodies needs. I know if I do not get the protein and fluids
in that my body will start thinking it is starving and store everything I
eat. In return, no weight loss. Not srue if I have truly answered your
question. But just increase fluids, if you feel hunger. If that pouch
fills up, no matter how hungry you think you are, you cannot eat. - Teresa

If you think you are truly hungry after you get home then you have to
change how you are eating earlier in the day. Increase your protein
through out the day. Choose substancial sources of protein...dense
proteins. You may need to add in one more snack before that window of
hungry has time to get to you. I know that if I wait until I am really
hungry to eat then I want to keep eating. If I watch the clock and schedule
my meals and snacks, then hungry doesn't have a chance to take over. If
you do this and still have to fight hungry, then chances are it's not
actual hunger.

I have the same problem after dinner...I just posted on the boards about
it...I have been brushing my teeth with a minty toothpaste to help out and
it really works for quite a while because NOTHING tastes good after mint
toothpaste except water! I've been doing two snacks after dinner for years
and years...I plan my snacks and make good choices...but there are times
when family members bring home BAD FOODS and I cannot stop thinking about
them until I get up and grab whatever it is! Head hunger is a tough little
booger! Boredom at night triggers my head hunger...I have been trying to go
to bed earlier too and see if that helps! Winter is the worst because it's
too boring and cold to go outside or something...Who the heck wants to take
a night stroll in 20-30 degrees! LOL Don't buy junk if you tend to
snack...That is my best suggestion...Make sure you have some good healthy
choices for those times you need something...But do not start bringing home
garbage foods! Plan a few nice snacks for yourself and try to stick with
only those things. Brush your teeth when you can't seem to stop! It
helps! (The mintier the toothpaste, the better!)

Get a lot of sugar and fat free yogurt, jello, and things like that. That
way you will satisfy your "hunger". If it is just wanting to eat
for some other reason boredom, habit and so forth; try drinking some
water.

I had a lil prob with this too...what I did was change my meal times..I was
eating in the 10, 2 and 6 oclock hours, but had to change it up to make it
later..now its more like 11o'clock ,3-4& 7-8o'clock hours and no
snacking..this has helped me and the last meal is usually something

I've had this same problem but during the afternoon at work. I knew I
wasn't really hungry but try telling that to my head! I was obsessed. I
finally figured out that it was environmental. I only felt this way at
work in the afternoons and never on the weekends at home. So I have
confronted this head on and gotten rid of evil snacks in my desk. And I'm
just pushing my way through without eating. I got some sugar free hard
candies and some gum. And I'm pushing more water. I always hate it when
someone tells me to drink water when all I really want to do is eat but
even I have to admit that it works. But I'm happy to say that making these
adjustments in the last week have helped and the scales are moving again.
Mix up your routine because it sounds to me like your problem is
environmental too. Good luck! You can do this and it's so worth it!
