Question:
I am over 65 and in a wheelchair.
Do you know of anyone 65 or older and handicapped (wheelchair bound) who has had lapro RNY and what, if any, they can expect to be different, if anything. — troggdog73 (posted on January 28, 2009)

I don't personally know anyone who has had this done but I can tell you
some things will be different. Usually insurance if you have it at your
age will pay for the surgery only if it is considered medically necessary.
Also are you in the wheelchair for a medical reason/disability or because
its better to move around that way; get too tired from walking and so
forth? If you have this surgery you might heal slower due to age but
better due to the fact that you won't move around as much. Let me know
what you find out if anything; we'd love to have the information available
about it. Good Luck and God Bless,

Hi I had gastric by pass 12-28-06, and I was 50 at the time and been
confined to a wheelchair since 1978, parapledgic
T-10 - T-12 area, I have done real good with my operation, I have lost 110
-120 pounds. My Doctors said without this operation I would probaly not be
alive today. It took me a while to find the right Doctor that was brave
enough to do this surgery, there is not many that have done it on poeple
with my condition, so they are afraid to try it on you, but if you do what
the doctor says and get a great doctor, I don't see why you could not have
some type of surgery. You might have to do alot of calling and go to lot of
seminars and talk to the doctors, but I am sure you can find a great
doctor, I am in Kentucky, if you need any help or names I can refer you to
mine,Dr. Timothy Wheeler, at Kings Daughters Hospital, in Ashland Ky.
Hope every thing works out well for you,
God bless you, Leatha
