Question:
Has anyone had GPS surgery that has IBS? How does the surgery affect the disorder?

I had IBS before my orginal RNY in 1997 and had diarrhea for 5 years. Than
it went away. I had a revision to my RNY to a ERNY. This was July 2, 2008.
I am getting alot better with the diarhhea. I feel in a few months it will
be gone. The diarhhea is getting less and less. Than the constipation will
begin for me. Than I am back to cherry prunes everyday. Good Luck

Had RNY on Nov 5/08 and my IBS is much better. Was told that because of it
I am less likely to be constipated. I am loose but not diareah any more.
Only had one occasion for it.

Hi! I am 7 months out from having RNY and had IBS for about 16 yrs prior to
the surgery. What I have found is that, many suffer from constipation after
surgery and I don't. I think my IBS-which caused me to have the opposite of
constipation, has made my bm's seem more normal. I go daily, in the
morning, and only once now. It feels so good to be 'normal' again. I don't
have to worry when traveling and that is the best part. I have been known
to go in unpleasant places...Hey you gotta do what ya gotta do, right? Am I
wrong? lol I hope this helps you. Of course, not everyone is the same. I
see some other posters still have some troubles. Good luck to you! Hugs,

I suffered from IBS pre-surgery. I had RNY on 8/27/08, and have had normal
bowel movements since then. No problems with IBS, and I feel that I am
finally normal. I do not have constipation like others say they do, I am
just "normal".
