Diane, if you are consuming quite a bit of wine on a daily basis then you
probably have a problem bigger then the prospect of weight gain. Stop
drinking the wine - if you can't, find help.

I know every one warns about people getting very drunk on just a little
alcohal. I have the oposite reaction I don't get a buz at all. I find it
disturbing but it is just the way I am now.
If the wine is not making you drunk and you feel fine. I would not worry.
If you find the wine is needed to get through your day you should find
help.

You probably need to start seeing a therapist in my humble
opinion...Consuming quite a bit of alcohol daily and GB is a bad
mix...Alcohol severely impairs vitamin absorptions and a slew of other
problems! Here's an interesting article for you to read!

if you need any alcohol on a daily basis you are in trouble. did you drink
this was pre op? Yor liver would really thank you, as would the hard way to
absorb your vitamins- if you just stopped. you already have 80%
malabsorption with any and all meds, why end up needing a newer younger and
happier liver. sorry pal, but please seek help. would love to have you
around many many years as proof wls works. good luck Cindi M.D. retired

Diane, I agree with what everyone else has said so far...
You DO seem to have a problem with wine. I really think that you need to
speak to your primary care physician and/or your surgeon and discuss this
problem with them.
Even 2 years out, you should not be drinking like that. It sounds like your
problem is not really WLS related. Please seek professional help.

Hi Diane. I'm not sure what you define as "quite a bit" but daily
drinking and gastric bypass is a bad combination, take it from someone who
has been there and done that. Prior to RNY I rarely drank. I began having
drinks with my ex-husband at about six months post op and was pleased that
I would a quick buzz and would then sober up quickly. Long story short I
continued to drink for 3.5 years and by the end of that time was so
physically dependent on it that I couldn't go more than a few hours without
withdrawals setting in. I was horrified and ashamed. I went to AA and got
sober which was way harder to me than anything I have ever done before.
It's been 4.5 years since my last drink. If you want to talk please feel
free to send an e-mail to me through here and I will give you my e-mail
address. Good luck and please take this seriously.
