Steroids are just killers as far as losing weight. taking them for 2 weeks
and also having a couple of shots are just hard on you, it is nothing that
you are doing wrong, Just continue to work your program and drink your
water and exercise. It will take a couple or three weeks for the steroids
to get out of your system and you will begin to lose weight again. DON'T
give up- this is just a little bump in the road that will level out and you
will be back on the losing track again. Congratulations on your wieght
loss!! I had a disease that I had to take steroids- high doses for 2
years:( and gained 75 pounds- it was very depressing, although I am better
as far as the disease goes. I see my surgeon on monday to begin my weight
loss program. can't wait to be on the losing track soon. Hang in there
though it will get better!!!:)

James,
Congrats on your initial weight loss. The steroids are what is causing the
weight loss to slow down or stop; its bad right; but not permanent. Drink
lots of water; protein water is good too and it usually tastes better than
regular water and stay on your program; you will start losing again. And
watch that poison oak; its a real pain. Good luck. If you want to talk
further my email is [email protected]

I recently went thru a week of IV steroids and two weeks of oral. My doctor
recomended having a bannana a day and no carbs at all. Call your surgeon or
nutritionist for more tips to jump start your metabolism. It takes some
time for the steroids to leave your system. Don't dispair. You will be fine
in a little while. Good luck.

James, I'm sure the previous posts are "spot on". Trust. I'm
compelled to comment because of 2 things. 1. I am 5 months post-RNY &
2. I got a case of poison oak or ivy about a month ago and I had never had
it before and didn't know what was happening. I actually thought I was
having an allergic reaction to some meds. (a presription iron tablet I had
been given). So I called the Op-Doc and got all tangled up in details. Then
I went to my primary care physician and got straightened around. Whew.
I do want to emphasize that "the long haul" is the important
concept. There are going to be peaks and valleys but I think we need to
focus on day-to-day and not get too anxious about the BIG picture. Keep to
your program and time will replenish your progress. Have a Nice DAY.

James, I am not going to be so quick to blame the steroids without knowing
more about your diet and exercise. I have been on high doses of steroids
for the last three years. I am 7 months post op and am still on both oral
steroids and shots and continue to lose weight. As i get closer to goal
(about 10 or so more pounds), the loss has slowed. When i see a stall in my
weight loss, I begin to look very closely at 1. what I am eating in terms
of carbs, protein, and calories; 2. how much water I am drinking, 3. my
level of exercise.
I would suggest beginning to look at those before I blame the steroids and
maybe talk to your nutritionist.
Best of luck to you,
--Kathryn
