Question:
2 months out, and something's different, not quite right?
For the last 4 to 5 days I have not had the feeling of fullness after eating that I used to get all the time. In addition I'm feeling hunger pains where my "old" stomach used to be. I also get an upset stomach feeling in my "old" stomach area after eating. Like I said I haven't had much of any feeling in my pouch. Has any one heard of the pouch opening up into the old stomach where food can get into it? Don't know if I'm thinking crazy? Maybe my body is just adjusting and this is normal? — paislieghstar (posted on November 16, 2008)

Beth there is no way for the food to pass from your pouch to your stomach.
If you had leakage from your pouch you would be very sick. Im almost ten
weeks out. Somedays I can eat more than others and it depends of what I
eat. Stay within your servings sizes. As is gets easier and we eat more, we
will run the risk eventually of gaining weight. My guess with this weird
new plumbing we have it just takes some getting used too.

They used to just staple the stomach and not seperate it as they do now and
what you described would actually happen from time to time...Your old
stomach does still function and produce acid, but it's unlikely that it
grew back to your pouch which was most likely completely seperated. (But
who knows???? Different surgeons, different surgery techniques!) It is
possible to get ulcers in your old stomach and it's very difficult to treat
them because again...it's closed off and there is no easy way into it
anymore. You need to stay on top of that and talk to your surgeon about
investigating especially if it doesn't get better on it's own very
soon...There could even be a tiny leak in a seam somewhere...Or...it could
be you're just crazy as you suspected...naw...lol... I'm kidding!
Hopefully it's nuttin'.

Restriction can fluctuate for no apparent reason really. Some days you
will be barely able to eat much at all and the next day you feel like you
could eat anything that's not nailed down. You could always put in a call
to your doc's office and check in to be on the safe side.
Best of luck,

Another reason that you may not feeling the fullness is if you are drinking
liquids with your solids. Sometimes they can make the solid food more of a
"slurry" which doesn't remain in your new pouch long enough to
give you that full feeling. The uncomfortable upset feeling in the area
you think is your "old stomach" may be the reaction your food has
in the bowel that was attached to your pouch. Keep an eye on what you eat
when this happens and if it continues, it may be a good idea to check with
your doctor that may be able to pinpont the problem.

Hi! I read what you wrote and wondered if you are having head hunger
instead of actual hunger. I am 5 months out and still have no appetite. I
feel stuff too...but it isn't hunger . It goes away after a lil while. I
still measure out my food..I consume 2 ounces now per meal. Make sure you
are drinking atleast 45 minutes after eating and, as someone suggested, it
depends on what you are eating. Slider foods tend not to fill you up.
Sliders are like cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, pudding, etc...they tend
to not stay in the pouch long. Hope this helps! and Good luck! And when in
doubt, ask the doctor. Its his job to keep you healthy! hugs, Kim
