Question:
Canadian Patient Out of Country (OOC) to US
Are there any other Canadians that went down to the US for their surgery that can tell me what they did about travel insurance??? — michell (posted on September 7, 2008)

Personally speaking, I NEVER go out of the country without buying travel
insurance! It's a small price, and who knows what may come up that might
prevent your trip! I hope not, but I had to cancel a cruise once due to a
death in the family. Best of luck to you in your upcoming surgery!

I should have rephrased that question I guess. Of course I want to get
travel insurance, but what companies do other people deal with and what
should I be looking for.

Lana, perhaps you should go to the "Ontario Forum" and ask the
question there. There are an awful lot of people there that have gone to
Michigan and other places to have their surgeries! Good luck to you.

Hi, I've sold travel insurance and I'm pretty sure that every policy
available to Canadians will not cover your 1. any medical costs arising
because the reason for your trip is the surgery. 2. It would also likely
nullify any cancellation or interruption for the same reason--if you have
any ability to foresee that there could be complications, then it will be
an automatic decline. It would however, still cover you for
weather-related or family health issues, perhaps a travel companion who's
become ill (and not getting WLS.) Sorry to disappoint. Read the
exclusions and covered risks very clearly, to make sure it does cover what
you need. Hope you find something.
