Question:
Pregnant. I had lapband done on Feb 11th. I am still overweight and I founhd out
on Aug 5 that I was pregnant with my second child. I have a 16 year old daughter who I had young, I never thought that I would have another child. I want to be excited and happy but I am scared to death that something is going to be wrong with my baby because I am still overweight. I weight 265. I used to weigh 485lbs. I had my first gastric bypass back in Jan of 2002, and I got down to 250 and I gained back 30lbs. Anyone else overweight and had a baby? I see my high risk ob/gyn tomorrow for my first vist. Any advice would help. Thanks — tylerswife (posted on August 10, 2008)

I was 274 when I got pregnant with my daughter. I had no complications
except that she was very large, but I knew she would be large no matter my
weight. My husband was 10lbs 11oz and I was 9lbs when I was born. I didn't
gain much weight, 15lbs - and I lost 62lbs by her first birthday. Good luck
- it's quite possible to have a healthy baby when your overweight. I, on
the other hand, felt horrible through the whole pregnancy adn I believe for
sure that it was because I was overweight.

I was considered morbidly obese when I got pregnant with my daughter 2
years ago, pre-op. I was 210. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes in
my first trimester. I had no real problems during my pregnancy, just follow
directions of the high risk ob/gyn and you will do fine.

I had 3 kids pre-op and well I was obese with all of them. I had a high
blood pressure with my first but the other 2 were pretty much smooth
sailing. My Dr's kept telling me I had to loose weight before my next child
and as much as I tried I couldn't. My children are perfectly normal and
healthy happy kids.

I was 270 lbs when I got pregnant with my son. That is long before I
thought about surgery. I lost weight during my first 5 months and stuck to
the diet the nutrition center put my on, took my prenatal vitamins and
walked. He was a healthy 9 lbs and had no complications. I had a C section
due to not being able to dilate. But he was healthy and is now 9 yrs old.

I was overweight with both of my pregnancies. With my first I gained 5 lbs
total, with my second I gained 13 lbs. After delivery I lost weight. The
first one I lost 24 lbs and the 2nd I lost 25 lbs. Because I was
overweight I didn't really eat differently so I was maintaining my own body
weight.. the baby was eating and in return making me lose my own body
weight in the end. I was 4 years older with my second pregnancy and I had
a lot of body ache with it. But he was also laying on my sciatic nerve.
Best of luck to you! melanie

I was very overweight when I had both my children. They were/are fine. My
oldest was a large baby, my second was onl 6-13. I had C-sections for both.
You may not have to. Good luck.

I had all three of my babies while I was overweight. I was 225 pounds when
I became pregnant with my oldest child. I was 22 years old and suffered
from severe pre-eclampsia. He was born three weeks early and was 8 pounds
6 ounces and perfectly healthy. At 26, I became pregnant with my second
child while I weighed 300 pounds. It was an uneventful pregnancy with no
complications and she was 8 pounds 15 ounces and healthy. At 30 years old
I weighed 350 and became pregnant with my third child. He was born two
weeks early and was born healthy at 7 pounds 6 ounces. Again, I had no
complications. I had three c-sections. My first was because of the
pre-eclampsia, but I labored with my daughter and was not able to deliver
because of a small pelvis, the third was a planned c-section. All of my
children are happy and healthy kids today. All pregnancies are different.
Of course it would be wonderful to not be overweight when becoming
pregnant, but it doesn't always happen that way. Take care of yourself and
your baby and eat as well as you can. Above all, make sure you are
comfortable with your ob/gyn and his/her experience AND bed side manner. I
wish you the best of luck for a healthy, easy pregnancy and delivery and a
healthy baby!

I was 240 pounds when i found out i was pregnant with my daughter, i did
everything in my power to try not to gain more than 15 lbs for my whole
pregnancy, i was doing good at 8 months i only gain 14 lbs, then i went
into preterm labor, was put on bed rest and shot up to 276 lbs at delivery,
i had a perfectly normal delivery. my daughter weighed 8lbs and 8ozs and
she was healthy, i was not even considered high risk.

My sister had her lap band surgery in October 2006, and she became pregnant
about 6 months later. She had lost about 85 pounds (weighed about 275)
then, and she had a very healthy baby. The only problem she had was a
flipped port, which she just had corrected. She said that part was painful,
and she cannot pick up her children for about 2 weeks. But that's the only
problem she experienced.
She did gain weight, of course, during the pregnancy, about 30 pounds, but
she is back on track now.
