I would think so, especially those that are young when they have it, 75-100
lbs to lose, and how much one exercies...I have lost 160 lbs. and 60 yrs
old, so yes I do have some, not too bad...but I have exercised alot for 2.5
yrs...but it sucks up nicely in tight fitting jeans...smiles...

Yes and No. 36 years old. down over 130lbs. from 286 to 148. No LOOSE skin,
but I do have some hanging skin under my arms - the flab that everyone else
in the world has, so I don't really care or worry about it. My stomach,
butt, etc. are all find and dandy.

I've been wondering the same thing. I'm 40 and I just had VBG in March.
I'm hoping my chances are greater, however, because I only started at 241
and aim to get down to 130, so hopefully the change won't be so severe that
my body can't bounce back.

From the support group I belong to there are several people 35 and younger
that their skin has bounced back to its original shape. I am 62 and lost
over 90 lbs, and everything keep tighting up, much to my surprise. My
largest scar was over 2" wide and now it measures right at 3/4"
near my waist. I have lost 14" in the waist and by beer belly has
vanished and I have a flat front. I am sure the next 80 pounds I have to
go will give me some sagging skin, howevery I can credit my 6 days a week
of excersize to the success that I had with no sagging skin to date to
speak of. Best of success to you.

My wife is a Nurse Practitioner and she was worried about this for ME. She
asked one of HER friends who was a Plastic Surgeon and what SHE told ME was
that GENERALLY the rule is that if you are UNDER 50 years old and have a
BMI UNDER 40 you should be fine. Any thing OVER those numbers MAY or MAY
NOT be a problem depending on the person and a combination of factors. The
YOUNGER you are the MORE LIKELY that your skin will be ELASTIC enough to
NOT require surgery. HOWEVER, if you were some kind of SUN worshiper, ALL
BETS ARE OFF! Frankly, I can't see THAT happening with folks of OUR
stature! We would more likely be rolled off into the SURF by confused
beach-goers trying to save the WHALES! ;-)
I hope this helps,
Hugh

I am almost 8 months port-op (RNY) and have lost 85#. I am 54 years old. I
have some loose skin on my tummy and inner thighs but it's not bad. I also
think it is getting better. I think my body is trying to catch up with the
rapid weight loss. The important thing is how much better I feel....I
didn't go into this to look good but to feel better and that has definitely
happened. Any loose skin does not show when I have clothes on anyway. I
have a friend that had RNY and had a double tuck...I would never put myself
thru that. She was in so much pain for 2 months and I don't see where she
looks much better. Hope this helps and Good Luck to you!

I'm 37 years I have lost 115lbs. I really don't need plastic surgery. I
do have some lose skin but not enough that the insurance will pay for any
kind of surgery

I've lost 100 lbs and am quite flabby...on my arms, thighs, belly, but I
lost that much weight in only 4 months. They tell me since I am under 40
(bearly) that it will likely bounce back. I hope so. I still have about 50
or so pounds left to lose. I figure I will give it til the one year mark
and see how it is before I decide on surgery and what kind. My insurance
will only cover one elective surgery...at this point I am thinking I'd get
my arms done, but hopeuflly they will just come back.

I'll be 43 yrs old next month...4 days after my 1 yr surgiversary! I went
from 265.8 lbs to my present 143 lbs. I have a little sag in the tush area
but, honestly, I don't need plastics I'm happy to say. I'm not at the gym
24 hours a day either. I walk about 5 miles every day with my best friend
so my tush and legs and thighs are toning up nicely. My arms are just a
little flabby but I'm shocked they're really not that bad. My boobs are
okay....miracle! My tummy could use some tightening but I can do that
myself. So, after almost 123 pounds gone, no plastics needed for me!!!
Good luck!

i will be 45 -- was fat for 23 years -- had surgery almost 18 months ago --
lost 101 lbs -- my skin is saggy in the belly, butt, arms and thighs --
but i really don't think i need plastic surgery -- it hides well under the
clothes -- i'm not going to wear a bikini any time soon -- the skin is not
a factor for me -- just wish i had some boobs again -- but there is no need
for me to have PS --good luck

I've lost about 100+ lb. I was age 61 at the time of my RNY surgery in
6/06. Recently I was evaluated for the need for plastic surgery. The answer
was, "No." The plastic surgeion said that even though I do have
SOME excess skin, I now look like people he performed surgery on -- AFTER
the surgery. He claimed that the risks of going under full anesthesia to
remove that amount extra skin would not be balanced by the benefits. I
agree with him.

I know this is not an answer to your question, as I think most everyone has
weighed in on that. I just wanted to give my experience one the skin
thing. I had distal rny when I was 57. I lost 184 pounds and got down to
126 lbs. I had no huge flaps of hanging anything. BUT...my skin did
appear very pruney. Like an old lady. We went to a hot springs in
Canada...and I put on a bathing suit...I was going to put on a cover up
because I felt so self conscious about the ugly skin. But I got to looking
around at all the body flaws of everyone else...and I thought...what do I
have to worry about...everyone else has to be so worried about what they
look like...who is gonna be looking at me. So I tossed the cover ups..and
enjoyed my soak in the hot springs...with my tiny but shriveled body.
Hey...nobody's perfect....just remember...everyone is thinking too much
about themselves to give a second glance at you...and if they do give a
second glance at you...they need to get a life! LOL~ Regards

I'm down 145 lbs and have had a child since my bypass. The only place I
would even consider plastics would be my tummy, but it doesn't bother me as
much as it used to. Lots of exercise, lots of lower ab workouts (lay flat
on the floor, keep ankles together and raise legs vertically...repeat a few
million times)

I lost over 176 pounds and worked my tail end off to keep in shape. I have
very little skin that I need to have removed. When skin is stretched so far
it loses elasticity. I was in my 30's when I had my surgery done 9 years
ago. I am now 42 and have been told that you can't tell I have had the
surgery. I do everything I can to stay in shape and work out every day.

I'll be 44...had surgery 4 years ago and my skin is a little loose but with
a lot of pilates type toning and several hours of swimming weekly, I have
toned up my skin and muscles quite nicely. I have some problem areas that
we all have but for the most part..i can live with what I have...I lost 150
lbs 315-165....Look at the people on the TV show "Biggest Loser"
they lose their weight faster than we do and they exercise the heck out of
their bodies...I don't see how any of us has that time to work that
hard...but over time so many of us really can get our skin in decent
shape...There are many that just do not. It's a tarde off for being
healthy...That I was willing to take...and I got pretty lucky.

I am 44 years old and I had my surgery 3 years ago started at 280 got down
to 140 (size 4) and I am always asked if I had a tummy tuck because my
stomach is so flat. I rarely exercised everything just fell into place.

I am 53 yrs old and have always had flabby arms. I've lost 115 lbs and my
arms would flap in he wind lol... soooo I did have plastic surgery on my
arms and all the way around my waist. I finally can wear sleevless shirts
and my shirts and pants fit ooooh so much better. I did the gastric bypass
for health reasons .... the plastic surgery was for me and it wasn't as bad
as I thought. Sure your tummy is sore but I am now about 12 weeks out and
I feel fine. If you decide to do any type of plastic surgery make sure
your Dr. is Board Certified and has done quite a few surgeries. Ask to see
before and after pictures. It is quite amazing. Best of Luck
