Question:
Anyone out there having problems with neuropathy since surgery?
My son had surgery on May 2, 2007. He is having problems with neuropathy in his legs. His legs won't hold him up. He has been off his feet for about ten days. — sextonglenda (posted on September 6, 2007)

There are questions about your son that need yto be answered before anyone
can give you an opinion, remember these are opinions and, we are not
doctors. Was your son mobile before surgery? Is he diabetic? Did he have
neuropathy's before surgery? Do you have CMT in your family? I would
suggest getting him to a neuologist as soon as possible. Is it painful for
him or is it just a matter of balance. Is it actually in his legs or feet
or both? How old is he? How long has he been obese? It will be much easier
to find someone with a possible solution , if you could post these answers.
Thank you and good luck our hearts go out to him.

MY son was mobile before surgery. In fact he had gone back to work where he
is on his feet all day. We have had him to a neurologists. We have found
out that his problem comes from malnutrition. He is deficient in several
vitamins and minerals.Hopefully by getting these back in his system, he
will be back on his feet soon. If you have had bypass, make sure that your
doctor does blood work often. My son had not had any work up since his
surgery until he started having problems. Thank you for your concern.

I haven't had my surgery yet, but at my pre-op, the nutritionist stated
that those symetms would occur if he was not getting enough THIAMIN 5-10
mgs per day. Hope this helps

Tell us what his vitamni regimen is? If you write to me privately, I can
email you alist of labs to have run by a competent doc. Might be your PCP
following for life. The symptoms can be any of the b-vites, but
specifically B1 or B12, especially if he's done much vomiting.

Neuropathy after bypass is due to not getting these valuable vitamins and
minerals and protien. If he has cdiff he is probably not absorbing much
with the diarrhia and bypass. What vitiamins does he take daily? Protien,
he is so new I can not understand it being so soon unless he is not eating
anything. Have they checked his legs with a doppler for blood clots?

I have not yet had wls and deal with neuropathic pain. This is definitely
something to address with the pcp and/or surgeon. He should probably be
seen by a neurologist.
Is your son unable to stand because his legs crumple or is he unable to
stand because of pain or both?
He should also be evaluated nutritionally to make sure he has the correct
amount of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.
Good luck to you both.
