The RNY is a form of gastric by-pass. In the surgery when the stomach is
separated from the small pouch and the first portion of the small
intestines are separated from the second portion of the small intestines
and reconnected further down the diagram resembles a "Y". There
are many different types of surgery the RNY is the most performed of them
all.

RNY = Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass; the most common weight loss surgery. You
can have RNY open or laproscopically. Here is a website that explains it
all, you may already be familiar with the surgery if you understand gastric
bypass. http://www.homanmd.com/RouxENY_Gastric%20Bypass.htm
