Question:
I am now in a bariatric program at Lahey Clinic Burlington MA, does anyone know Dr.
David Braum and how was your experience at Lahey Burlington? Also have others gone on the liquid shakes before surgery to lose some before surgery weight? How terrible do they really taste? They suggested to me to be on them for 2 months before surgery, I'm not sure that I can do it for that long any suggestions? Thanks — NHDebbie (posted on June 6, 2007)

I cannot comment on the Burlington MA issues, but I can say that I was on a
liquid diet two weeks prior to surgery. It wasn't fun, but it was doable. I
drank slim fast high protein, carnation instant breakfast drinks, sugar
free jello, pudding, popsciles, etc. Did they give you a certain amount of
weight to lose prior to surgery? Two months seems a bit long, but every
surgeon is different. Good luck.

I had to go on Optifast for two weeks prior to my surgery. I was allowed up
to one pack a day of sugar free gum (Dentyne Ice works) and up to two cups
of fat free chicken broth per day. It was hell at the beginning but you get
used to the routine and I made it through. But two months seems excessive.
Good luck.
