Question:
Anyone not losing or slow losing??
I was wondering if I am the ONLY person slow losing? I am 5 months out and have only lose 26lbs. Please share your story so I can stop thinking that I am the only one. Thanks — plannsimple (posted on May 30, 2007)

More detail is needed for your question. Are you exercising? Are you
eating only what you are supposed to? RNY or lapband? There could be many
other reasons, but also remember this, EVERYONE is different. Hang in
there and give us more details. Good luck!

I had the lapband 6 months ago, and have only lost 20-30 lbs. I know how
frustrating it is. I am now exercising 3 times a week at curves, and still
have not lost much more. Hang in there and remember that the weight is not
going to come back. Good Luck!

I had lapband surgery and walk 3 days a week. I don't eat bread, rice or
pasta. I do however drink wine a couple of nights a week.

Hi Laura,
I had my lapband placed on April 27,07. I lost 20 lbs. during the two
weeks of opti-fast, then nothing since. I'm hopeing a fill will start the
downward trend. I too am diappointed. I know surgery is a tool but if I
could have lost weight with diet and exercise I wouldn't have paid $
16,000.00. Like I said, the fill should help me lose. I thought I would
be slimmer by now.
Keep your chin up. Hopefully, by this time next year we'll be cheering on
others who feel like we do today.

Hi,
I had gastric bypass on Mar 6th and have only lost 30 lbs. I do the
treadmill five days a week for 30-40 minutes and I have now started riding
my new bike for at least 30 minutes. I am weighing myself everyday and the
scales just stay at the same number. I think I am building muscle so I
guess in the long run that will be good. I need to quit weighing so often
and quit reading other individuals progress. It just depresses me. Lets
keep our fingers crossed and I am sure we will be happy with ourselves in
weeks or months too come...Good luck.

Hi Laura, I am so sorry for your frustration at losing weight. I looked at
your profile, but I still had trouble getting some facts. I am assuming
the following: You had lap band surgery and have lost 26 pounds. I am
assuming that you are watching what you eat, but only to some degree, and
perhaps you enjoy alcohol from time to time (superbowl comments), and have
a low evercie level? Having made these assumptions, here are my comments.
The tool you chose for surgery, if it is the lap band, can be a very useful
tool. You can drink either alcohol or sugary beverages and it will go
right through the hole, and you can drink all your weight right back on.
Same with chewing well and eating often. You have to ask youself if you
are your own worst enemy with weight loss. The brain often wants to
convince you to cheat your way back to your old weight, it is a head game
all the time to lose weight, not just a body issue. You have to use that
tool to it's full potential in order to get your result. You don't have
the mal absorption of the rny, but even people with that surgery will
regain if they are not careful, they just don't have the slow down as quick
as you, but they certainly can have the same result, especially 3 to 5
years down the road. You have to make a choice, fight for your weight
loss, or choose to keep going the same path. You can try a weight watchers
group, counseling, etc. There is support out there, but you have to seek
it out, and then follow the advice. If you are already doing all of that
(because I really cannot tell by your profile), then perhaps you need the
rny instead of the lap band. I am 3 years post surgery with the rny, and I
choose the rny over the band for the very reason that you are struggling
now. I knew I would cheat my way back if I could, I know the head issues
in me are strong and I had already done the 1200 calories a day and walk 8
miles a day and not lose weight. My body had already shown me all the
warning signs that the band would not work for me, so I had rny. It turned
out that I was right in my assumptions about myself. The mal absorption
works for me very well and I have kept off my weight now for 3 years by
God's amazing grace. That doesn't mean you cannot succeed with the band.
You chose the band for a reason, and you can still fight for your weight
loss. Just get support and encouragement and then really take their
advice. Weight loss is always about a life change. When we commit to any
wls surgery we commit to a life change. It is just that many times after
surgery we think the change doesn't have to be so great. Again, the head
games we play with ourselves is strong. It is a great change, and a
committment for life. Remember why and move forward, you can do it. Take
care. Patricia P.

Hi I had RNY Dec 28 so I am 5mths out, I have lost 64 lbs. I walk 2 miles
every other day. boost plus for breakfast, lunch consists of about 3-4
bites of meat for protein mixed in a salad, I can eat only about 1/2 of
salad. supper consists of 3-4 bites of protein and anything else I can get
in and feel full in 30 minutes. i eat a lot of Taco bell hard tacos extra
cheese no lettuce. I can eat one ,but it takes me 30 minutes. In between I
drink water, crystal light, sugar free kool-aide, no caffeine, no sugar of
any kind except what ever is in milk (skim) But anything sugary, or dairy
causes GAS, a lot of loud stinky GAS. just a warning.. Hope this
helps..remember to take a bite and put the fork down wait and hen a second
bite. it is all a ind game and teaching yourself to eat diferently then we
did before surgery. Good Luck, and be blessed.

When I get stuck on a plateau,
the advice I have gotten that has worked has been:
- Mix up your exercise so you are working different muscles.
- Drink a lot more
- Count your calories more carefully and more honestly - make sure
you are eating enough but not too much (on the order of 1000-1100 calories
daily)
- Focus on protein and produce
- Stay away from soft foods
- Take your measurements again - while on a plateau you can be
compacting without weight loss
- Get your main meal in at midday instead of at night
- Get the junk food out of the house
- Drink when you think you are hungry to see if the hunger goes
away
These have all helped me get off plateaus. Otherwise I just eat normal
food, trying to stay away from potatoes, rice, pasta and bread, and of
course, most sweets or junky snack foods (hard to avoid their siren call
if
they are in the house)
Posted on another board, but I liked the advice.

You're not alone. Everyone is different when it comes to the speed of
weight loss. Don't be discouraged. GOOD LUCK !!
