Question:
I feel like I have a lump in my throat. Help!
This is not painful. I am not having trouble breathing, I'm not throwing up or running a fever. I'm able to eat. I just feel as if I ate a peanut butter sandwich and didn't drink anything (which I did not do) Its just a lump in my throat feeling at the lower neck where it meets the clavical. Any ideas or suggestions? Please let me know. I don't want to take a 3 hour ride to San Francisco. — trenansac (posted on February 6, 2007)

I think the best bet would be to ask your regular physician.

I get that also. If I can make one of those rumbling burps it helps. So I'm
thinking gas. It also happens with liquids. I'm really interested in other
responses.

I did send an email to my physician. It must not be too serious because I
haven't gotten an answer yet. I was hoping to get some ideas here. Thank
you for your answers.

This sounds like something I went through. Have you been under a lot of
stress? It could be a stress indicator. Sounds silly and I had a hard
time believing it too. A year after my daughter had an accident that
changed all of our lives I kept telling everyone I was ok and I was
handling everthing. For a month I had what I thought was a scratch or lump
in my throat. Long story short....While in ER one day thinking I was having
a heart attack I asked the dr to look at my throat since I was there...lol
She tells me it went with everything else going on with me....stress :)
I did not believe her but the more she talked the sicker I got... any way
they put me on happy pills and a week valume (sorry spelling) the lump went
away...could not beilieve it. Hope this helps.

I think that is normal, especially with something as sticky as peanut
butter. Just make sure to chew your food really, really well. I would
call your doctor rather than e-mailing, if you are concerned.

Last year I started feeling something in my neck. It was a
nodgle(spelling) on my thyroid. It didn't hurt it just felt like something
was pushing on my neck. Please go and have it checked. I thought mine was
nothing and it turned out to be cancer. Best of luck!

For a long time after my surgery it felt as tho that was were my stomach
was- at the bottom of my throat. Now when i get that feeling it is usually
due to eating when I am stressed- even some times when I think i wasn't. If
circumstances don't allow you to eat in a quiet stress free enviromment-
even if you are doing something you enjoy but are excited about- either try
to wait to eat or go with a liquid meal. Talk to your doc about something
to relax you if your life style just isn't set up for it. It takes some
real demands on your part of those around you to give you some tranquility.
Otherwise like me, and probably others you will end up not eating enough
and being weak and undernorished. I almost quit eating all together because
it was just getting more and more painful. Talk to your professionals-
don't feel embarrassed or selfish about it. You need this for you.

Globus is the word that describes what you are feeling. I'm not sure what
is 3 hours away in San Francisco... If you aren't having trouble breathing
and you can still eat or drink normally, then you should call your PCP. If
you are having trouble breathing or can't swallow normally, you go to your
local ER or call 911.
Here is an info page about globus:

Hope you feel better.

Hi. I get this feeling as well and have no idea of what causes it. It is
not painful and does not affect me in any bad way, aside from worrying
about it. However, I have noticed that it may coincide with me eating
bread, but I am not sure. If you get any answers, please keep me posted.
Thanks.

I also had that feeling years ago. Turned out to be a thyroid tumor. Mine
was benign, but I ignored it some time and started having choking problems.
When in doubt, get checked out.
