I can only go by what I was allowed to do after surgery. Ask your surgeon
before you leave the hospital as to what he will allow you to do until your
1st post op check up. In my case, walking was it... you can't swim yet,
due to the potential of your incisions opening up and getting an infection
from the water. But, I was told that I could walk the stairs at home and
that it would be good exercise. At my 10day postop appt, he okayed for me
to do whatever, except swimming until the incisions were well healed. (No
scabs) But, i went to Curves that day and was walking all without any
problems.. hope this helps.

The nurses advised to walk as much as possible even though I could only go
for 15 minute walks at first. They said that it helps the blood circulate
and heal the areas that need to heal. After surgery, walking even seemed
too much since my body was healing (Open RNY). After my three month check
up the doctor cleared me for everything even weights. For the weights, he
advised to start slow and with proper form and low low weight and build up.
If you build up slowly with them you won't find yourself straining and
potential for a hernia. If I get that feeling, I lower the weight and try
again later.

Do as the surgeon advises. If that advice is to walk until you come back
to see him, then walk.
